Hello! We are looking for a boys name to go with our 3yo Theo (Theodore) and I have stumbled across the name Artie, I love it and don’t know any, just wondering what others thought of it as I can’t ask friends and family in case we use it! Thank you!

I have friends who were given a nickname instead of a full name and they find it irritating as adults not to have the choice

I'd hate it too. I'm glad to have a beautiful syllable name. Close family and friends sometimes shorten it to a 'cute' nickname

I have a nickname instead of a full name. Quite frankly couldn't care less, my name is simply my name and I don't need a choice of name.

Lovely name but use Arthur or another formal version, especially if DC1 is Theodore known as Theo.

I have negative associations as it reminds me of the character Arty in book Geek Love (the first time I came cross the name) but I think that's a very random association! Objectively it's a nice nickname, maybe a bit informal to be a full name 🤷‍♀️

You are naming a grown man here, who will have a career and possibly positions of status & responsibility in his life. With that in mind, I would call him Arthur & use Artie as a childhood nickname for as along as he wants to be Calle£ that.

I like it, but agree with posters, Arthur for birth certificate, Artie is cute for a little one, family name nn etc, but he may prefer Arthur as a man.

I actually like it but there’s a young lad named Artie in my friends sons school she tells me his nickname is Artie Fartie

Fine as a nickname for Arthur, but I wouldn’t go for Artie by itself.

Twoinapod · 12/01/2023 20:39

Definitely not as a stand alone name,

Arthur
Artemis
Archer

would work as full names

piscosours · 12/01/2023 22:43

Artie is a nickname but I know an Artemis nn artie

Also if you plan to use artie I can't see why a second Arthur in the family would be a big deal

Lovely name
sounds great with Theo

I like it. I knew an Artie at school and he was a lotta fun.
