Ivan, Nicholas or Vincent?

Sashimito · 11/01/2023 07:37

Baby boy is due in a few weeks. Vincent is a name I've always loved but as my pregnancy has progressed I've got the feeling it isn't the right name.

I've been through about 30 names but knocked them off my list.

Now I think I'm deciding between Ivan or Nicholas. Thoughts?

Nicholas is lovely

DramaAlpaca · 11/01/2023 10:58

Nicholas. Great classic name.

I like Vincent too.

I really don't like Ivan.

Rauha · 11/01/2023 11:00

Vincent

ClaryFairchild · 11/01/2023 11:05

Ivan is just a Slavic version of John. Do you have any Slavic connection?

I like Nicholas.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/01/2023 11:09

Love Ivan or Ivo

also love Nicholas, as long as you like Nick.

Can’t stand Vincent,.

DuchessOfSausage · 11/01/2023 11:16

Nicholas
Vincent gets shortened to Vince or Vinnie, and neither are pleasant
Ivan seems a bit too russian for the current situation

TempsPerdu · 11/01/2023 11:28

I love Nicholas with nn Nico. Not overly keen on the other two.

Monsteraobliqua · 11/01/2023 11:32

Ivan or Vincent. Both great names

Sprig1 · 11/01/2023 11:46

Nicholas, definitely.

Happyhippy99 · 11/01/2023 11:52

Vincent, fantastic name.

Sashimito · 11/01/2023 14:11

Thanks for the responses. It seems quite a mix.

I don't have Slavic family ties but do have personal connections to Russia. On previous threads Ivan has always come out well, so I'm wondering if the current situation will influence perception.

Nicknames are a major thought and I used to really dislike Vince and Vinny but like them now, although I don't like Vin.

For Nicholas I really really dislike Niko, so much so it might persuade me not to use that name. I like Nick though.

Vincent is lovely.

Yika · 11/01/2023 17:39

All 3 are lovely.
I’d probably go for Nicholas as it’s so classic and versatile.

ofwarren · 11/01/2023 17:44

In certain accents, Nicolas is pronounced the same as knickerless.
There was a knock knock joke

Knock knock
Who's there
Nicolas
Nicolas who
Nicolas girls shouldn't climb trees

Crap joke, I know, but that's what it reminds me of.

MajorCarolDanvers · 11/01/2023 17:47

Nicholas

Zola1 · 11/01/2023 17:49

Absolutely hate Nicholas and nick on a little boy seems too grown up. I like Vincent/Vinnie and don't mind Ivan. Vincent definitely my fave.

Ha ha I pronounce Nicholas the same as knickerless, never realised

Moonflower12 · 11/01/2023 17:52

I have a Nicholas. He is 25.
As a little boy he was Nicky and then Nick.

Amadeaa · 11/01/2023 17:56

Nicholas is great, but maybe it’s because I know quite a few and they are all lovely people.
wouldn’t go for Ivan in the current climate but was never a fan of this name in general.
vincent - ok, don’t love it, strangely I think it’s a name that only suits very few people, but I can’t say why I think this.

Firebird83 · 11/01/2023 18:29

Nicholas

Twoinapod · 11/01/2023 18:37

Why not wait until he’s here and see which one fits best? It’s hard to settle on a name when you haven’t seen him.

Jomummy1013 · 11/01/2023 18:39

Deffo Nicholas. Lovely name xx

My dad is called Nicholas. He told me he used to get this. He also got called Tin Arse (nickel arse). But it's such a lovely classic name and I really like it. My middle name is Nicola, because of it. Xx

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/01/2023 18:44

Nicholas, by a country mile. A PP said they couldn't imagine a baby called Nick. The baby could be Nicholas with any abbreviation left to the child to decide on later in life. Or the parents could call him Nicky when he's little and he could then move onto Nick as he gets older if he wants to.

PAFMO · 11/01/2023 18:47

Definitely Nicholas.
Vincent will be Vinnie and that sounds like he brylcreams his hair and drank with the Krays.
Ivan is just very ploddy and heavy sounding.
