Yep 6 names! How do you rank them for boys names, which do you prefer and why?

They're all very popular top 100 names. I know several of each and don't find any particularly beautiful or memorable.

emmathedilemma · 10/01/2023 15:36

I like them all, they're all good "robust" classic names. I don't have any reason to dislike any of them although I prefer Liam the least. Think about potential nicknames and what initials would spell with your surname and any middle names.

Purplemagnolias · 10/01/2023 15:38

Why not choose the one YOU love?

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 10/01/2023 15:42

I don’t mind Charles (Charlie is a nickname, not usually a given name). Oliver is well overdone and boring. Not keen on Alexander. Thomas is boring and dated. Liam and Finley aren’t my cup of tea at all.

CastleTower · 10/01/2023 16:00

Alexander. Lovely name.

virginqueen · 10/01/2023 16:09

I would use Alexander if I had another son. Medical miracle if that happened ! How about
Henry
Edward
Louis
Marcus
Sebastian

Myheartisbythesea · 10/01/2023 16:12

Yes those are lovely names too, many of those were on my list but DH veto’d !

Finley - a bit wet
Liam - only if Irish
Thomas - safe, classic, inoffensive name. Tom
Charlie - safe etc if short for Charles
Oliver - safe, classic, inoffensive name. Not keen on Olly
Alexander - safe, classic, inoffensive name. Alex, Alec ok, don't like Xander

I'd pick Thomas or Charlie

Myheartisbythesea · 10/01/2023 16:16

Yes agreed re Xander! I think he’d be Alex or full Alexander

I like Thomas and Charlie (would be Charlie on bc as I dislike Charles)

OP posts:
Mischance · 10/01/2023 16:17

Not Finley.

Myheartisbythesea · 10/01/2023 16:18

Oh interesting, why is that?

OP posts:
beachsandseaicecream · 10/01/2023 16:24

I have a Thomas so I'm biased but I'd choose Thomas, Alexander or Oliver.

LordSugarTits · 10/01/2023 16:25

Any except Finley

Not sure many boys want a ‘beautiful’ name and kids just like to fit in so OP is probably safe.

I like Charlie, Finn, Liam in that order.

itsabigtree · 10/01/2023 16:30

Liam!

It's strong but sounds nice too.
It's well known but not over used.

There are so many Charlie, Alexander's, and Oliver's. Finlay is ok.

Appleass · 10/01/2023 16:30

Finlay - a wuss/cry baby
Liam - bit of a thug
Thomas - usually the scruffy kid, always has a snotty nose
Charlie - dogs name
Oliver - Kind and friendly
Alexander - Strong and dependable

custardbear · 10/01/2023 16:34

I like Fintan instead of Finlay

Alexander is nice but a bit dull

Oliver is every other child's name

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 10/01/2023 16:37

I rate them in this order:

Liam - my favourite from your list, like it on its own or as a nickname for William

Finley - a close second to Liam, like it too

Thomas - a nice timeless classic

Oliver - nice but it's been so popular for so long it puts me off

Alexander - not keen, it's a bit "posh boy" to me, it's Boris Johnson's first name and that's the sort of person I think of when I hear the name.

Charlie - where I live it's a slang name for a troublemaker, as in, he's a right Charlie.

Rauha · 10/01/2023 16:38

Alexander

Myheartisbythesea · 10/01/2023 20:34

Yes the Boris thing put me off have to admit! He’d most likely be Alex for short which hopefully sounds more down to earth/friendly? Ha

Myheartisbythesea · 10/01/2023 21:11

Yes it’s funny that I think of Charlie as a dogs name! I still like but I wonder whether we should save it for when we actually get a dog 🤣

SummaLuvin · 10/01/2023 21:13

Sasha is my favourite diminutive for Alexander.

resm · 10/01/2023 21:13

I love all of them except Finley, it’s just a surname to me.

I have a baby Thomas and think it’s a very solid, traditional name. It suits him well.

Oliver, Alexander, Liam & Charlie were also on my lists when pregnant with Thomas & his bros but husband vetoed for various reasons. I agree Charlie is lovely, but really dislike Charles.

Myheartisbythesea · 10/01/2023 21:15

@LordSugarTits oh really why?
