Yep 6 names! How do you rank them for boys names, which do you prefer and why?

Thank you ! Yes Thomas is lovely, are you able to say what you opted for with a bro out of interest? It seems we have similar tastes ! @resm

Sasha to me is 100% girls name or Russian boys name, I can’t go for that …but I do appreciate the input!

His big brothers are Isaac & Jude. Also loved Luke, Matthew, James, Joseph & Daniel if that’s any help :)

Finley - really like and Finn is cute

Liam- Really don't like I see it as a bit Chavy

Thomas - Ok I like Tommy

Charlie - Very nice lovely sound to it

Oliver - Lovely nicknames

Alexander - Lovely strong name

WarningToTheCurious · 10/01/2023 21:32

I like all those names. I’d probably go for William with the option to shorten to Liam or Will and I’d spell Finlay this way.

Have you thought about Patrick and Daniel?

CellarDoreen · 10/01/2023 21:34

I love Thomas. Don't care that it's popular. I'd have used for DS except DH didn't like it.

I don't like the others at all! But they're fine.

Alexander would be my second choice.

Oliver or Charlie would be my last choices.

Insomnia23 · 10/01/2023 22:33

Good luck!
🍀

  1. Alexander
  2. Thomas
  3. Oliver
  4. Finley
  5. Liam
DramaAlpaca · 11/01/2023 00:02

Liam is my favourite but I like all of them except Charlie, which is a diminutive to me.

Myheartisbythesea · 11/01/2023 08:03

Yes DH not keen on Thomas I don’t know why! What did you go for with your son (if you don’t mind me asking?)

I really like Finn. Not so keen on Finley.

ThatshallotBaby · 11/01/2023 08:06

What about Flynn?

I was the one with the DH who didn't like Thomas!

We ended up with a quote unusual Irish name. I'm Irish.

Other names on our list were Sebastian, Marcus and Nathaniel. DH also liked Max but I didn't like it. I liked William, but he wasn't keen on that either

FellForTheWrongUnAgain · 11/01/2023 08:10

Finlay / Fin
Alexander
Thomas
Oliver

Not keen on Charlie or Liam

SamanthaJoBow · 22/11/2023 13:32

I have an Oliver Joseph, Finley Alexander, and Charlie. I really like Henry and Riley for our next little guy. I like Tommy, but don't love Thomas. My brother's name is Will so I'm saving all forms of that for him just in case.

JMSA · 22/11/2023 13:34

Liam is a chavvy name. Sorry.

MaloneMeadow · 22/11/2023 14:10
  1. Oliver - love it, nice and classic, named my DS Oliver!
  2. Alexander - really like and loads of nickname opportunities, a very close second
  3. Thomas - lovely but dislike Tom/Tommy nicknames
  4. Charlie - it’s alright, Charles is nicer
  5. Finlay - hate Finlay but love Finn
  6. Liam - seems cheap to me
Mykittensmittens · 22/11/2023 14:18

We have an Alexander chosen (as was his sisters name) as it has many abbreviation possibilities.

he’s always Alex, which is his own choice. His Dad jokingly calls him ‘Al’ sometimes which winds him up.

I also liked it as I think it suits a child, a teen, an adult and an older person. There are a lot of twee names about which may suit a diddy baby it wouldn’t suit a 15 stone rugby player/barrister/etc.

TerribleWoman · 22/11/2023 14:24

I have a Thomas. It's a lovely name, but all his friends are also Thomas (literally, he has 5 close friends and 3 are Thomas). None of them calls themself Thomas, they are all Tom with one Tommy.

HardcoreLadyType · 22/11/2023 14:32

My rankings and thoughts are as follows, for what they are worth;

1 Liam - I like this name; it has a gentleness to it
2 Alexander - good solid name with lots of nickname options
3 Thomas - another good solid name but always popular. Your son will be “tall Tom” or “violin Tom” to distinguish him from all the other Toms.
4 Oliver - nice enough name, was very popular 20 years ago.
5 Finley - an okay name.
6 Charlie - it’s not even a name.

Scruffington · 22/11/2023 14:34

Liam is a classic Irish name. But a lot of people on MN see Irish names as 'chavvy'.

dressedforcomfort · 22/11/2023 21:05

I love Thomas, Finley and Alexander, theywere all on my list.

Oliver and Charlie are a bit overused now IMO.

Dislike Liam.

@Scruffington I’m proudly Irish and see Liam as being cheap and chavvy. It’s personal taste, not prejudice. I had no idea it was even of Irish origin. Stop making assumptions on people you don’t even know

shoopshoopdedoo · 22/11/2023 21:12

Alexander
Oliver
Thomas
Charlie

Liam
Finley

You're Irish but you didn't know Liam was an Irish name?

Seems legit...

@Scruffington Living in Belfast but born in Dublin. Both my kids have Irish names and I am proud of my heritage. We live in a very mixed area and I have never come across a Catholic family with a Liam, it’s always been more of a Protestant name to me. The only 2 families I know with Liams are from England. Not sure why you’re so defensive over this?
