Cali for a girl

Ok, so thoughts on this?

Im not pregnant ATM but been just brainstorming a bit because we definitely want a sibling for our DS in the future. Before we knew if it’s a boy or girl we decided on a name Eden which I still love but recently I fell in love with name Cali.
No short for something else, just like that Cali. I know for someone it will be associated with California probably.
Also I don’t like middle names and our DS also don’t have one so won’t be using ( possibly) as a middle name.

I love Cali! Reminds me of the character Callie in Grey’s Anatomy

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 10/01/2023 13:48

I prefer Callie.

CatLoaf · 10/01/2023 14:22

Know of one that's just been born - it's cute. I also prefer the Callie spelling, but each to their own!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 10/01/2023 16:03

I like Callie. Or even Calle. Cali seems like it's short for something. Maybe California Grin

LaLuz7 · 10/01/2023 16:18

Cali by itself sounds a little cheap/stripperish.

Cali short for Caliope is perfectly nice though

DuchessOfSausage · 10/01/2023 16:20

short for Caligula?

sparklyWand · 10/01/2023 16:21

I take it you are not in Scotland? Cali is commonly used to refer to "Glasgow Caledonian University".

viques · 10/01/2023 16:22

Just don’t use Rose as a middle name, some wag is sure to connect the two and call her Cali Flower.

SouperNoodle · 10/01/2023 16:23

I couldn't but only because the Cali was a local rock bar where everyone got insanely drunk and shagged each other every weekend 😂

UselessExLondoner · 10/01/2023 16:55

I like it but prefer it spelt Kali or Callie.

thesnailandthewhale · 10/01/2023 16:58

SuperCali ....

Yoyooo · 10/01/2023 16:59

Calista is nice

Whatwhatwhatnow · 10/01/2023 23:23

I assumed it was pronounced Carly and made me think of the Hindu goddess Kali.

I prefer Callie for this reason.

Abcdefgh1234 · 10/01/2023 23:23

Sorry op. Its like a stripper name

SoShallINever · 10/01/2023 23:31

I love it. Its not remotely like a stripper name.😎
I think it has surfer, hippy vibes.
Not pretentious like Calista or the other try hard variants.

Jeelypieces20storeys · 10/01/2023 23:46

Cali says Glasgow Cali uni to me
Callie is great, I know a 6 year old Callie & worked with a Caroline who went by Callie.

midsomermurderess · 12/01/2023 04:25

Calliope, nn Cali.

LightHousePanda · 12/01/2023 09:23

I think it looks better as Callie - like others say it looks like it's short for something with the Cali spelling.

FatGirlSwim · 12/01/2023 15:09

Cali in Wales isn’t uncommon.
My worry would be that English people might hear Kelly.

NotEnoughMud · 12/01/2023 18:05

City in Colombia?

Agree that it's sweet as a nn for a Calista.

Catoneverychair · 12/01/2023 18:09

Cali/Kali an the Indian goddess of destruction? Not too sure.

LittleLottle · 12/01/2023 18:15

I like it better spelled Callie or short for Callista

Kiki25 · 12/01/2023 18:36

I love it.
It’s actually on our list but we are playing around with spellings C or K???
Cali
Callie
Kali
Kallie

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 12/01/2023 19:36

Cali looks like a nn. Incomplete. I like the previous suggestions of spelling it Callie and as a nn for Callista.

Onnabugeisha · 12/01/2023 19:38

Nope, Goddess of Destruction? Not a good name to saddle a child with imho.
