Anyone else been surprised at what people in their lives have called their children?

Reggie and Ronnie for twins. Why would you?

I know someone who named their twins Ronnie and Reggie too!

purpletowelette · 14/01/2023 18:34

@godmum56

No, quite the opposite. They put their parents through hell and terrorize their siblings. Neighbours and visitors are regularly subjected to vulgar behaviour and expletive tantrums.

And you know exactly what I meant. But, carry on trying to be clever...

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie named one of the children "Shiloh". Shiloh Pitt sounds nice until you Spoonerise it. Imagine the poor child's life at school...…...

DB & SIL. Two DD's. Hope and Peace.

Just find it tacky.

Noone has mentioned the name yet.

We've had scarf and tie... Stole? Necklace? Not snood!

My sister in law's a teacher, and she had a 'Sharlit' in her class years ago. Not so much an unusual name as crap or inventive spelling. She said she thought they liked the sound of it, but didn't know how to spell it.

I’ve come across something similar - in my case it was Abbey-Gale. I think your sister in law is spot on in her analysis!

We've got a Banjo and Zeus in our extended family! 😂 FFS

I have a Walter, which even makes me raise my eyebrows at what we were thinking. But of his closest buddies, there is Darwin, Ernest, Reggie, and Winston. I often expect to see these babies in tweed jackets smoking pipes.

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 15/01/2023 03:32

I can't understand why parents never consider initials when thinking of baby names, and how they will go with their surname. Perhaps that's because our surname didn't lend itself well to certain initials!

The one that that stands out to me at the moment is Stacey and Joe Swash's children. Rex and Rose Swash, poor little mites. R Swash? Really?

Also I remember the first visit to my future MIL, and her local bread delivery man was outside, his name was Christopher Hiscock, Not that unusual in itself. But written across the side of his van was

"Mother's Pride
C. Hiscock"
😂

Ive also met a Millie Bee.

Did she arrive approx. nine months after her parents were doing the doo?

Yes one of the children in the family has a ridiculous name, hes named after an item of clothing. I feel sorry for him as all the other kids in the family have normal names even his brother. When I've mentioned his name in passing to people always ask me to repeat the name.

@Bananarama21

Bo is a unisex Scandinavian name.

The other two are ridiculous!

Isn't the scandi name Bo pronounced boo though?

IHaveEmotionalMotionSickness · 18/01/2023 08:47

Yeah my sisters best friend has just named her baby Cash. She has two girls with really traditional names (think Elizabeth, Charlotte kind of names) then Cash. I think it’s really bizarre

Catswhisky · 18/01/2023 10:11

I know of a Heaven-Leigh who will be in her early 20s now. Also a Tiger-Lily who is known as Tiger.
