Anyone else been surprised at what people in their lives have called their children?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

At 15 mine changed from really good interchangeable name, that partner and I thought perfect, to preferred name, so don't sweat it too much. They do what they want when older, despite our best efforts. It's a terrific name, but takes gets used to by us, friends embrace it, think Sunflowers.

I’ve spent my whole life having to repeat my name and spelling it out loud to people. It’s awful. I ensured I called my children totally normal names with normal
spellings.

I know this sounds made up, but my friend's mum was a midwife and she once delivered triplets for a mother called Mrs Jeans. Triplets were called Blue, Denim, and something else I can't remember but that continued on the theme 🤭

There was a female character in Bates Motel called Bradley so depending on when she was born perhaps they got the name from there? It ran from 2013-2017.

Oh, she WAS born in that time frame. I guess it's a pretty good chance that she got it from there. Thank you 😀

No one I know has ever done a really out there name. A few quirky old fashioned type ones but they’re nice - an old friend has a Bertie and a cousin has an Agatha and an Alma. But they’re lovely IMO. Some people in our family found Agatha and Alma really shocking 🙄🙄

MadameOvary81 · 09/01/2023 20:59

I've got cousins; Danny Boy and Danny Boy Jr. Not Irish, not travellers....they are vegan though.

FellOnMyArseToDay · 09/01/2023 21:00

Cardi? Tbf all names have been out there once and just become
more circulated.

I know twin boys called Frank and Spencer (not in the UK). That made me smile 😀

@Nakedornotnaked I think we know the same person. There can not be two heaven - Leigh’s

BrownDaisy · 09/01/2023 21:14

At least nobody has done a Sarah Cox and named their son Isaac!

Mycatsgoldtooth · 09/01/2023 21:14

My kids have quite weird names. My oldest loves his name, and it’s the most out there. My middle child did ask to change his name to Kevin which I think is much weirder these days then the one he’s got.

Verbena17 · 09/01/2023 21:15

I was thinking more like Mackintosh

Initials bother me. Fred Luck = FLUCK. Just why?

S Pray etc

Teachers I have encountered, F. King and A. Gay though the latter probably predates the use of Gay not meaning happy etc.!

I know someone who named their boys Jack and Jake. And another couple who went for Oliver and Olivia. Not even twins. So confusing!

HarlequinInTheThirdRow · 09/01/2023 21:18

Oh, and I knew someone who called her DS Senna

All her kids had odd names, but that's the first time I've known anyone named after a laxative

Only knew her for a few months through a kids group. She was a right PITA though, so backed off and stopped going to the kids group. Rather full of herself, over-bearing and very domineering

Queen Victoria, adonis, not family thankfully
