How do you pronounce it? Is it a male, female, or unisex name? I’ve never heard it before.

SuperGinger · 07/01/2023 20:11

Aurelia?

Knittedfairies · 07/01/2023 20:11

Pronounced Orla?

harrywho · 07/01/2023 20:11

It's an alternative spelling for orla, I'm not convinced at all. Actually prefer orlaith but orla is nice too.

I think it may get misheard for Órla. Is it pronounced the same way? Like OR-la?

So, if that would bother you I would avoid. I do love the name Órla though so love the sound of it. The spelling jars a bit in my head, but only as I know the Irish name.

It’s an absolutely terrible “alternative” spelling.

goldenfoliage · 07/01/2023 20:13

my first question is does it have clear origin? is it foreign?
my second question is are you sure it's not supposed to be Aurora said by someone who struggles with R's?

I don't like it, but that's because I don't properly say my R's.

GoodbyeLondon · 07/01/2023 20:14

How about Órlaith or Orlagh? If you want an alternative spelling.

goldenfoliage · 07/01/2023 20:14

oh, haven't seen other posts, sorry about comment. Yeah, Orla is just better

HelloBunny · 07/01/2023 20:15

The R thing. Will be Awh-Ler in some places regardless of Aurla or Orla.

This.

LCforlife · 07/01/2023 20:16

Awful. Why not just use Orla? Wacky spellings are just cruel to your child.

StephanieSuperpowers · 07/01/2023 20:16

Where did that spelling come from as an alternative to Orla?

Vitriolinsanity · 07/01/2023 20:16

The child then adult will be spelling this out repeatedly for ever and ever.

MaggieFS · 07/01/2023 20:17

Really not good.

liveforsummer · 07/01/2023 20:17

Looks like some sort of ear issue written like that. Orla is lovely though

Vitriolinsanity · 07/01/2023 20:18

Orla? No Aurla. How do you spell that? AURLA. Ah, like Orla but with an Au?

IntentionalError · 07/01/2023 20:18

If you’re going to use a traditional Irish name, or a traditional name from any other culture, you should spell it correctly. It’s disrespectful to make up your own spelling.

Sherrystrull · 07/01/2023 20:22

The aur spelling of or is surely forever linked with dinosaurs??!!

LaLuz7 · 07/01/2023 20:26

Atrocious

brusselspout · 07/01/2023 20:27

Whose alternative?!
Did you make it up?

Volkswagenitalia · 07/01/2023 20:28

Why the need for an alternative?

Orla or Orlaith.

Twoinjuredswanss · 07/01/2023 20:28

It looks like you’ve tried to make an anagram of Laura into a contrived new name. Orla much nicer

TowerStork · 07/01/2023 20:29

I really wouldn't use that as an Irish of name. In fact, I could imagine a comedian or media commentator making fun of it.

kitcat15 · 07/01/2023 20:40

It awful
