I know a 2 year old Cassius

Fenella123 · 02/01/2023 10:04

Well a Cassian is currently the lead character in the Star Wars spinoff series "Andor" so you may want to factor that in.

GoldenCupidon · 02/01/2023 10:05

I know a baby Cassius tbh I don’t like it but that’s because it gives me villain vibes.

Needmorelego · 02/01/2023 10:08

The author Anthony Horowitz has a son called Cassian.
I have always thought "Cassian Horowitz" sounds like a fantastic name !!
I was baffled by the other thread where people were saying the name choices were 'chavvy' - they are the sort of names I personally would more assume to be from middle class 'trendy' families.
People have strange ideas about names - and some people are very snobby about it.

WinterFoxes · 02/01/2023 10:09

I know a Cassius. Very much upper-middle class parents.

Soontobe60 · 02/01/2023 10:11

I teach a Cassius. Most people call him Cass. The only other Cassius I know is Cassius Clay - Mohammed Ali!

Yeah I think the thread did take a nasty dark turn
I dont think the names are Chavvy at all personally think they are cool 😎

I know a 50s Cassian, very upper midddle class, lovely guy.

Cassius sounds more chavy due to the boxing connection.

maeveiscurious · 02/01/2023 10:39

Both lovely names

evemillbank · 02/01/2023 10:42

There are two in my child's year. They are definitely not middle class

milkymeg · 02/01/2023 10:46

I know a Cassian. Parents are not chavs

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 02/01/2023 10:46

I know a Cassian. It’s a pretty good name, unusual but not difficult to say. However you’re going to get some comments about Star Wars for the next few years!

user3199 · 02/01/2023 10:49

I know a toddler Cass. The parents couldn't agree between Cassian, Caspar, Cassius etc so went with Cass.

Livingbestlife · 02/01/2023 10:58

Really do like Cass
Not really one for nick names or shortening names but Cass I like 😀

I know of one Cassius, has a lisp, very unfortunate for a name with that many ‘s’

fajitaaaa · 02/01/2023 22:09

Yes. Don't really think anything of it.

AllyCatTown · 03/01/2023 08:50

I think every name has been called ‘chavvy’ on here at some point so wouldn’t worry. People are far more judgemental about names here than in real life.

I do sort of see the point of it perhaps being a bit try hard but then if you were suggesting Jack people would be saying it was boring and you’d put no effort in. So you can’t please everyone.

CPL593H · 03/01/2023 09:02

I know a Cassian, 40s. Nice guy, quite arty and into music seriously, it really suits him. Usually answers to Cass.

Think it's a great name.

Tallulah28 · 03/01/2023 14:38

I know two little boys named Cassius… both from quite “bling” loving flashy but not well off type families. Both dads massively into MMA/Boxing etc. To me, it is a chavvy name (much as I hate the term chavvy)

daysleepers · 05/01/2023 11:30

I think you will find on Mumsnet any name that isn't Jack, Oliver or Thomas is deemed as Chavvy.

The two under 10 Cassius I know aren't chavvy.
I don't know any Cassians but is one of my fave names.

Now if you had said Porche, Mercedes or Bentley then I would think differently!

Wagsandclaws · 05/01/2023 11:37

I also know a Cassian, Mum is super cool dad is a record producer. Neither of them chavs 🤷‍♀️

I have a Caspar, both Cassian's parents and myself and Dh shorten our sons name to Cass. I don't think that the names are chav ( whatever is meant by that! )

Jadviga · 09/01/2023 02:46

Love Caspar more than Cassius or Cassian but I think all of those names are pretty cool !

Cinnamonandcoal · 20/01/2023 22:27

I know two older posh Cassians and one small one with the middle name Raphael.
I like it. Don't like Cassius as much, not sure why.

BloodAndFire · 20/01/2023 22:29

Cassius is not a character I would want to associate with my child.
Murderer vibes!

Cassian is better, not my taste but at least no bad associations that I know of

TigerQueen89 · 20/01/2023 22:55

@Livingbestlife Cassius makes me think of the comedian Shaparak Khorsandi - she had a bit in her set about deciding to call her son Cassius after some bloke she fancied when she was at school, then the punchline was that all the girls she grew up with also fancied this same guy and then each one also named their son Cassius (No me either, its not that funny).

Also makes me think of Cassius Clay, the boxer and activist who later changed his name to Muhammad Ali.

And this song that came out when I was doing my A levels
