Baby girl due in a few days, I have a name set I like Shona, any unique names I prefer. Me and my partner really like Shona for our girl, we need some middle names any ideas would be great.

I like it!

Shona May
Shona Louise
Shona Faye
Shona Rose
Shona Marie

Nice Scottish name that you don't hear so much on little girls these days. It has a pleasant gentle sound.

Shona Elowen
Shona Imogen
Shona Josephine

I feel like three syllables works best. Unless she's going to have a v long surname,

FayCarew · 17/12/2022 10:36

Shona is ok. Middle names May, Rose or Grace are overused.
Marie and Louise are 1970s middle names.

Avoid using a noun or adjective as the middle name, or it will sound too similar to 'Shown a ...'

Anothernameanother · 17/12/2022 11:00

Is it shown-a or shon-a?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/12/2022 11:02

Pretty name! I like it.

MessyRaptor · 17/12/2022 11:03

I like it and all the Shona's I know are lovely

Thanks for insulting all my suggestions Hmm
I happen to think those names are nice and suggested them in good faith to the op. You are entitled to your opinion but is there any need to belittle mine?

Is it shown-a or shon-a?

I knew one - it was Show - na.
Said with a Scottish accent.
Nice name!

MyBooksAndMyCats · 17/12/2022 11:06

Very pretty name.

Maggiesgirl · 17/12/2022 11:07

Shona Gabrielle.
Shona Elodie
Shona Penelope

Twizbe · 17/12/2022 11:12

Oh dearie me ...

For me it will forever be 'hitler in tights' from The High Life.

If you've never seen that series though, not an issue.

It's also quite a niche thing to have watched so I doubt loads of people have heard of it.

dementedpixie · 17/12/2022 11:13

I have this name with a different spelling
I have 2 middle names : Janet and Mary

Rauha · 17/12/2022 11:14

I love it

FayCarew · 17/12/2022 11:21

@Sherrystrull , lots of people think they are nice and that's why they are overused, and they have become the filler middle names of their time. I didn't say anything about Faye, but although I like Fay, it would sound like Shown a Fey Surname.

Yes, the first thing I thought of! I watch The High Life all the time though, one of my favourite shows ever. I love the character Shona in that show, and think it's a very nice name.

OwwwMuuuum · 17/12/2022 12:03

I imagine someone in a prairie dress shearing sheep on a ranch in Australia. A good, solid, clean person with a good soul and an independent spirit.

PriamFarrl · 17/12/2022 12:06

I like Shona. Very 70s though. And I see it as one of those names that has stayed Scottish, you don’t often hear it outside Scotland.

2020firsttimemum · 17/12/2022 12:07

Opening myself up here haha...

Its actually my name pronounced show-na

Mum was half Scottish and that's where it came from
I guess I would like it more if it wasn't my own name haha

Not very common though, particularly in England. I'm 28 and only ever come across 2 maybe 3

ODFOx · 17/12/2022 12:09

This thread is odd.
Saying that names are 1970s as if it's a bad thing. It's 50 years ago so all those names are due the next revival, surely?

romdowa · 17/12/2022 12:14

Beautiful name. It was on our list but we had a ds. I love celtic names and Scots gaelic and Irish are very close , so pronunciation wouldn't be difficult here

The 70s were 24 years ago. Thank you very much.

DuchessOfSausage · 17/12/2022 12:36

@ODFOx , they're not due a comeback for a few decades. Names like Susan and Linda will probably come back first.

RaraRachael · 17/12/2022 12:47

My best friend is called Shona - it was very popular in the 60s and 70s in Scotland. Having taught for 40 years and never encountered a Shona, I think it's time for a revival!

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/12/2022 12:49

That's a name I haven't heard for decades.

Endofdaysarehere · 17/12/2022 12:57

I’m living the high-life
im living it well
I’m living the high-life
where everything’s swell…..

I loved that show.

Shona is a lovely name, but every Shona I know is over 45.
it’s absolutely due a revival
