Nox for a boy

My DH and I love Nox for a boy. Is it usable? Please be honest, I won’t be offended.

It means ‚night‘ and we got it from a book.

My concern is that people may spell it Knox or that it’s too unusual.

Sister is called Ruby.

Get ready for Nox Nox jokes.

Prefer it spelled Knox tbh.

Knox just about. Otherwise, how about Nixon nn Nox?

I am all for unusual names but spelt the usual way!

I mean you can spell it Nox if you like but other people will assume Knox.

My dd has a name with various spellings and we accept (and encourage her to accept) that people will misspell it and that it really doesn't matter.

Nox. Short for Entonox? Noxious? Knockers? Looks like a misspelling of Knox. Plus what everyone else said. I don't condone making fun of people's names at all but the world is cruel.

Use it if you like it but I think it may cause quite a few problems for your child and at best they will be constantly explaining how to spell it, where it comes from, what it means. Which can be very wearing.

I would also go with Knox. Nox makes me think of noxious or the chemical symbol for nitrous oxide. Knox is quite cool and unusual. I can imagine hearing that at school and not thinking much about it.

It sounds like a cleaning product (jif, flit, nox). Also why would you want to name your child after night? A bit depressing isn't it?

They use it as a spell in Harry Potter, which was my first thought. I think if you like the sound I'd go for Knox.

nox nox jokes didn't even come into my mind. I did think of the Harry Potter spell, Knox, used to extinguish Lumos.

Not my cup of tea generally, but not horrible. I would use a fairly conventional middle name with it so your child has options if they do find it too unusual.

Nox is the Roman Goddess of night. The Greek Equivalent is Nyx, also female.

I would find it an odd choice for a boy. Knox is traditionally a male name.

Then there the Harry Potter connection. And the ones above.
