OP I was not belittling anyone. I was simply stating some facts and- after many other suggestions - trying to protect your future child from just perhaps some possible embarassment. Even in these times, to call a boy by the name of a female goddess is unusual and does look, for want of a better word, odd. That might be what you want, if so, go ahead. But if I were a boy child, I really think that once I came to a certain age I would be asking why you had given me a female name.
FWIWJulian/Gillian (they're the same word in medieval English variant spellings) is a later female form. Julian is a later male form. But this does not alter the fact that the original Roman/Latin male/female forms are Julia/Julius.
So far as I can find out, there is NO later medieval form for Nox, male or female. Nox remained female for millenia.
I am genuinely sorry if these facts do not please you. I won't write more, either. But the LAST thing I was trying to do was belittle anyone or upset you. I was honestly trying to help.
For centuries, kings and leaders have, in Europe, been called female middle names, to invoke religious protection. And in some Catholic countries it still happens. It's just a bit unusual for people outside those spheres, and thse using annciet "pagan" names. That's all.
