Showing my age, but I think of a doll. It's not my personal favourite, but it's not terrible.. was it short for Cynthia originally?

emmathedilemma · 14/12/2022 11:04

My first thought was also the doll and then a dog I used to know.....so it's a big no from me.

countrypunk · 14/12/2022 11:13

My first reaction was NO but actually on second thoughts I think it's quite sweet! Maybe it's due a revival?

Greenfairydust · 14/12/2022 11:14

I immediately thought ''doll'' & ''Crawford''.

Sounds a bit old fashioned.

eddiemairswife · 14/12/2022 11:16

The British equivalent of Barbie. I have 2 long abandoned Cindys upstairs, One has no hands(!). and the other has had a bad hair day since some gave her a shampoo.

fruitbrewhaha · 14/12/2022 11:17

Short for Lucinda.

Coxspurplepippin · 14/12/2022 11:18

American cheerleader

Musthavebeenbadinapastlife · 14/12/2022 11:20

The doll (sindy) or Beale from Eastenders.
Sorry.

Pearls1234 · 14/12/2022 11:21

First thought was Sindy, the doll. Second thought was Cyndaquil, the Pokémon.

jay55 · 14/12/2022 11:36

I have two lovely friends called Cindy both late 60s/early 70s.
I like it because it reminds me of them.

And the doll was spelt Sindy.

Orphlids · 14/12/2022 12:33

I really like it. It’s fun. Has a cheerful and light-hearted sound.

SlagathaChristie · 14/12/2022 12:34

I also think of the dolls, but I do think it's quite lovely, especially if short for Lucinda.

holierthanthou73 · 14/12/2022 12:34

It’s a no from me, sorry OP

PeepingThomasina · 14/12/2022 12:39

Lucinda on the birth certificate. But I love Cindy, it’s underused and adorable. She’ll definitely be the only one!

And yes the doll absolutely was Sindy, not Cindy. I really wouldn’t pay any mind to that if you love the name.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 14/12/2022 12:59

I can see the appeal. It sounds fun and carefree. I do really like Lucinda though.

Every generation has its diminutive names ending in an ee sound. These days we've got Evie and Maisie, in the 60s there was Cindy and Vicky. They'll always be popular.

HerReputationMadeItDifficultToProceed · 14/12/2022 14:20

Two thoughts: Cindy Beale and the girl my first love lost his virginity to (she worked in the Gateway supermarket).

ofwarren · 14/12/2022 14:22

I think it's cute!
I agree with others on using Lucinda on the birth cert.
She could then choose from Lucy and Cindy as nickname.

Cuppa2sugars · 14/12/2022 14:27

i have a good school friend called Lucinda. She’s always been Cindy and she prefers it. I always called her Lucinda as i like it better 🤭

AriettyHomily · 14/12/2022 14:44

Doll that was never as good as Barbie

elp30 · 14/12/2022 15:28

All the Cindy's I know are called Cynthia.
I prefer Lucinda rather than Cindy.

Unicorn717 · 14/12/2022 15:29

I always think the dolly or Cindy from Eastenders. Always used to think it was a terrible name but now I don't like it or hate it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/12/2022 15:35

That I wouldn’t want to have the same name as a well know brand of crappy dolls.

Don’t

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/12/2022 15:35

But yes, Lucinda as a FN if you must.

Figgypudding123 · 17/12/2022 09:31

I thought 'doll' too.

Really dislike it tbh. Sounds vapid and ditsy to my ear. Much nicer names out there.

mrsbitaly · 17/12/2022 09:37

My first thought is a doll. I have a friend who's name is barbie absolutely awful for her although Cindy is a bit better. But that's our thoughts OP if you love the name that's all that matters. Many names come back around.
