I love it. I knew one in my 20s. Strongly considered it for DD but didn’t in the end, only because I don’t like Bridget.

JanglyBeads · 12/12/2022 20:30

Love it

massistar · 12/12/2022 20:46

Only know working class Glaswegian women in their 60s and 70s called Bridie.

Emberness · 12/12/2022 20:55

My Irish great aunt was bridie..I like it

PinkBuffalo · 12/12/2022 21:01

My friend is bridie (she must be early 20s) and she is so lovely I only associate good things with the name 🙂

SirChenjins · 12/12/2022 21:02

No - it’s a meat pie!

fdkc · 12/12/2022 21:03

Oh god no, awful name

CheeseandGherkins · 12/12/2022 21:03

Terrible.

Oblongogo · 12/12/2022 21:14

No it’s a type of pie where I live

ODFOx · 12/12/2022 21:16

I have a Bridget. We're in England. I wanted Bridie as a NN but Bridge stuck with the nursery staff.
So now she's Bridget, Bridge or Boo depending who is addressing her.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 12/12/2022 21:19

Used to be a common girl's name in Ireland, short for Bridget. Most of them would be 90+ now though.

Londonderry34 · 12/12/2022 21:24

Bridghe. Strong!

Murasakispillowbook · 12/12/2022 21:26

I love it!

Passthewinebottle · 12/12/2022 21:27

I know one, she's early 30s & not a nice person so that would put me off, however her aside, it's a lovely name.

greenhousegal · 12/12/2022 21:30

It's what we jokingly call "The Bride" in the run up to weddings in Dublin anyway.

Bit old fashioned and reminds me of Auntie Bridie in her crossover apron. But each to their own. Brid Breda or Breege are nicer versions these days I think.

larkstar · 12/12/2022 21:57

Yes - I knew a Bridie at high school in the 70's - a really sweet natured girl. So - I love the name but haven't heard it used since.

gaf · 12/12/2022 22:03

I know a Bridie, she’s in her 20s and lovely.

I think Bridget is awful though. So harsh and drab.

CockSpadget · 12/12/2022 22:07

I have a Bridie. She loves her name.

Pettv · 12/12/2022 22:09

Love it

CassandraBarrett · 12/12/2022 22:10

Bridie makes me think of an old lady.

toastofthetown · 12/12/2022 22:43

I love Bridie. I know a young one, probably about ten years old. I prefer it with Bridget as a full name, but it’s fine on its own too.

Brandymakesmerandy · 12/12/2022 22:48

My lovely friend is called Bridie she is 45

Mittens1717 · 13/12/2022 07:55

Awful, I'm Irish and the only Bridies I know are in their 80's, Bridget is not any better

AnnieApple123 · 13/12/2022 10:34

To me it’s a frail old lady name. But this probably means it’s due a revival so could be fine.

antipodeancanary · 13/12/2022 10:45

I know one, mid 20s and delightful. She's not a Bridget, not Irish nor Glaswegian. I like it, but would go with Bridget to give choice.
