Quite like it. Love Bridget.

Letsrunabath · 14/12/2022 00:05

Love it, I have a cousin with that name and she is very charismatic. Everyone remembers her.

fdkc · 15/12/2022 19:56

In Ireland you would be either aged 80+ or a member of the travelling community to be called Bridie.

Yes this is exactly what I thought

SemperIdem · 15/12/2022 23:09

I knew one. She’s a vile human being so it’s rather put me off the name.

MarigoldPetals · 15/12/2022 23:10

What if she doesn’t want to be a bride? It’s fine not to get married nowadays.
I am not keen on the name I have to say.

Definitely!

Irish granny name.

I like it, and also like Biddy. If I had had my way, one of my DDs would have been called Bridget, with Biddy as a NN.

Birdie is sweet too imo.

@heldinadream
Yes, Gobnait is a name and it's pronounced...

...Gub-nit

Xmas Wink
Lesserspottedmama · 16/12/2022 19:27

I love Bridie and Bridget, splendid names.

Berlinlover · 16/12/2022 19:30

Here in Ireland it’s unheard of for any woman under 70 to be called Bridie.

Ha ha ha ha! That's even better. Thanks!
Worst name ever I think.

Up there with Balonz and Genghis! Grin

Irridescantshimmmer · 16/12/2022 19:46

Bridie is a lovely name.

Vinylloving · 16/12/2022 19:50

No. And I just see birdie

Blendandmix · 16/12/2022 19:54

I know one in her twenties and she's absolutely lovely

mrswarthog · 16/12/2022 20:04

I love it, also Bridh/Breege. It's a family name for me, so I think it's lovely

DurdleSnore · 16/12/2022 22:21

I know one Bridie in her thirties. She has Irish roots I believe. She’s an attractive, clever and kind hearted lady so I like the name by association.

Feckedupbundle · 16/12/2022 22:36

My cousin's daughter is Bridie, she's 16. I really like the name and it isn't popular yet.

EdithGrantham · 16/12/2022 22:43

I put Bridie down on my list after DH vetoed Birdie (along with Boudicca and some other out there names, I blame the hormones) but I couldn't convince him on it either. I think it's lovely and obviously the Irish nanna/pie issues aren't universal and assuming you're not in the relevant areas, unless you plan on relocating I wouldn't worry about those comments.

Pemba · 17/12/2022 19:55

Little old Irish lady, yes. And it seems quite quaint, probably because it contains the word 'bride' even though I get that there's no connection. I don't mind Bridget though.

Elspethelf · 17/12/2022 23:17

I went to school with a Bridie, she was the most popular girl in my grade. It was not a name I’d ever heard of before but it suited her perfectly

winonarose · 22/12/2022 00:41

Beautiful name
