Tristan

This is the first time in what feels like ages that I'm considering adding a new boys name to our list so this moment feels sort of special ;)

We are lost when it comes to girls names as there are so many we love. For boys we had a pretty short list since the beginning. So choosing for a girl is more fun in a way but also more stressful and the boys options seem safer, like we will be less likely to regret them. So difficult.

Anyway, thoughts on Tristan?

These are the others on our list:

Otto
Flynn
Edward
Max
Finn
Elliott
Caspar
Colin
Aidan
Tristan

Names we had on our list but have since taken off: George, Finlay, Maximilian, Edmund, Dylan.

Well it's better than Colin but I prefer most of the other names on your list.

toastofthetown · 12/12/2022 09:20

I like Tristan. It’s familiar without being overused. I prefer Caspar and Otto on your list (though personally I’d avoid Otto as it’s so trendy)

Orangebadger · 12/12/2022 09:23

I love Tristan, also like Max on your list

Unicorn717 · 12/12/2022 09:28

Not a fan of Tristan. Wouldn't pick Colin. Casper's probably the best on your list.

Consufed · 12/12/2022 09:40

I really like Tristan, as well as Aidan and Caspar.

I reckon Colin is actually quite nice and due a comeback.

Krakinou · 12/12/2022 10:44

I like Tristan a lot. Have you read/watched James Herriot? He’s a fun character and I think the name captures it well.

FayCarew · 12/12/2022 12:47

Otto - dislike
Flynn - prefer Finn
Edward - ok, don't like Ted or Ned
Max - ok
Finn - better than Swede, I suppose. It's nice but I think it's a bit of a tearaway's name
Elliott - ok, a bit wet sounding
Caspar - ok, will get written as Casper
Colin - old-fashioned and not in a good way
Aidan - ok, a bit dull
Tristan - ok

Purplemagnolias · 12/12/2022 19:16

Tristan always reminds me of Triste = sad.

I like Caspar or how about Reuben or Quentin?

Dyra · 12/12/2022 20:08

Love, love, love your list! 😍And I really do like Tristan as a name. Very uncommon, and it's the name of the hero in Stardust, which is one of my all time favourite movies.

Lots of your list (Elliott, Max, Finn, Caspar (though would have used Casper), and George) were seriously considered for DC2. We eventually settled on Max. We couldn't come to a consensus on a long form for his name. DH wanted Maximus, I was not a fan. I wanted Maximilian (1st choice, DH couldn't spell) or Maxwell (2nd, DH disliked)), so he's just Max.

Other considered names were: Leo, Felix, Luca, Jasper, Ezra, and Eli.

Dyra · 12/12/2022 20:09

Oh! And James and Jacob! Forgot them. Odd since they were both front runners for a while too.

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 12/12/2022 20:09

I love Tristan.

Wagsandclaws · 12/12/2022 20:15

It's a lovely name, personally I prefer Caspar as I have one and he shits it beautifully!

Most people spell it Caspar ( which is how we spell it ) in the first instance.

bidibidi · 12/12/2022 20:24

I have a Tristan so obviously that's an amazing choice.

I'm not keen on rest of your list, though, so maybe we don't have similar taste.
I imagine your list also wants ... Hugo, Luka, Theo, Laurie, Walt, Dominic, Barney, Blair, Blake, Alex, Albus, Adam, Arnie.

Flynn & Elliott are ok.

BiscuitLover3678 · 12/12/2022 20:37

Tristan and Aidan are my faves.

Orphlids · 12/12/2022 20:39

I really like Tristan. Names don’t come much more romantic than that! I love the drama and eroticism associated with it. Great choice.

Gamergirl84 · 12/12/2022 20:44

I like the names on your list especially Flynn!
Tristan means sadness, from the Latin Triste, so although it's a really nice name I've never had it on my lists. Also Tristan and Isolde did NOT end well lol.

Edward/ Edmund and Caspar would be nice choices too.

LulooLemon · 12/12/2022 22:45

My favourites are

Otto - love it
Edward - strong name with great nn
Max - yes
Tristan - yes

Flynn - not really my taste
Finn - not my choice
Elliott - don't love it
Caspar - no
Colin - caterpillar cake, so no
Aidan - maybe

BambinoBlue · 12/12/2022 22:55

When are you due? If from now to end of January, Caspar is perfect as it's the name of a wise man. If you're not due until the summer though, I'd avoid!

I like your whole list though, in varying degrees. And Tristan is lovely 😊

PacificallyRequested · 12/12/2022 22:59

If you anticipate giving birth to a middle aged posh bloke, crack on.

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 12/12/2022 23:00

I love Tristan. Elliot is also lovely. Definitely not Colin!

Middle aged Tristans were obviously babies named Tristan...

minticecreamisjustok · 12/12/2022 23:04

I think Tristan sounds good for someone young or old, not keen on Colin, would sound very dated, Otto a bit out there. Everything else you listed I like.

Offleyhoo · 12/12/2022 23:05

The only Tristan I know is always "Tris", which I don't personally love.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 12/12/2022 23:06

Love Aiden. Really don't like Tristan - always makes me think of a spoilt public school boy I know..

Berlinlover · 12/12/2022 23:07

I have a cousin called Tristan, I pronounced it Cristan when I was little.
