Anna or Lana?

Baby is due in one week and feeling so indecisive about her name. We didn't have this problem when I had my son. I'm worried that if I hold off until she's born that she could go nameless for weeks.

Anna! Love this name, was on my girls list along with Laura and Martha

DirtyPanini · 04/12/2022 15:17

Definitely Anna.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 04/12/2022 15:17

Lana. Anna is lovely but a bit boring to me.

Either are good names though so whatever feels right when you see her!

ofwarren · 04/12/2022 15:18

What letter does your surname begin with?

CaptainCastillo · 04/12/2022 15:19

This Is hard. I love both! I guess I would choose Anna but Lana Is lovely too.

Maybe If you're planning to get more kids you could name her sister Lana because they sound adorable as a sister duo :D

lookersnoopy · 04/12/2022 15:21

I prefer the sound of Lana but Anna would eliminate the obvious!

saturdaymorningbored · 04/12/2022 15:21

I love Lana, it's my DN'a name BUT at school they've worked out what it says backwards and she hates it.

Spenn · 04/12/2022 15:21

Lana is nice until you spell it backwards

ofwarren · 04/12/2022 15:31

Spenn · 04/12/2022 15:21

Lana is nice until you spell it backwards

Oh god, I never noticed that! Confused

MissHavershamReturns · 04/12/2022 15:34

No to Lana, personally don’t like it.

But Anna is a really beautiful name

ChocChipOwl · 04/12/2022 15:34

Lana is a no because it's so easy to spot the reverse spelling and not a reach in any way to do so. Once spotted, you can't un-see it

JamSandle · 04/12/2022 15:35

Lana

Aquamarine1029 · 04/12/2022 15:35

The Anal thing makes Lana a hard no. I'd be concerned about bullying in school, honestly.

Gloschick · 04/12/2022 15:37

If you are worried about the backward spelling, Alana is another option. Also allows for nn of Ally.

Beachy10 · 04/12/2022 15:42

Thanks, Anna has been a favourite from the beginning. I hadn't really considered the name backwards thing for Lana I just love the sound of the name. I just worry that Anna is a bit boring (although it's not popular where we live)

Bagzzz · 04/12/2022 15:43

How do you say Lana - does it rhyme with Anna or is it lar-na?

Anna, like it anyway. I hadn’t spotted the back of Lana but as pp notes can’t unsee it.

Overthebow · 04/12/2022 15:45

Definitely Anna. Calling a kid Lana is a bit cruel considering the backwards spelling. Other kids will work this out.

Beachy10 · 04/12/2022 15:45

@Bagzzz we'd pronounce it as Larna

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 04/12/2022 15:45

Anna is lovely and very underused.

FearofQueefing · 04/12/2022 15:49

How about Lara? Lovely name...

Beachy10 · 04/12/2022 15:54

@FearofQueefing yes Lara is gorgeous too

ThirtyThreeTrees · 04/12/2022 16:16

Both are lovely but Lana reversed will cause teasing.

Others sort of similar:

Hannah
Annalise
Laura
Lara
Lauren
Lyra

I think Anna is lovely, timeless & universal. Easily pronounced. Known but not very common.

AngelontopoftheTree · 04/12/2022 16:17

Anna, such a classy, classic name.

Thomaslovesalison · 04/12/2022 16:27

I have an Anna. But actually, I think if I had my time again I'd call her Lara. I like Lana too though.

Thomaslovesalison · 04/12/2022 16:30

And actually Anna is not that popular these days, but still classic, which is why we chose it. It was a less popular alternative to Evie and Isobel really. But there are no other Annas in her three form year group which surprised me.
