Could you comment on Bree for a girl, please? Just Bree, as a full name.

Does it sound contemporary enough or a bit dated? Husband and I seem to always go for names that are a bit past the current fashion, but we don't really mind so much. I'm just a bit curious because its sound fits better into the late 90s or early 00s, I guess, when Brittany, Brianna, Brooke, Bryony and Bethany were popular.

Others on our list are Angel, Annabelle (decided Annabell won't work), Sophie, Chloe, Jenna, Jolie but might take Jolie off due to being too associated with the actress (thanks for suggesting Joely but I don't really like how it looks).

I love Bree

But then I'm a massive fan of virgin river

Schoolstresses · 03/12/2022 07:24

If you think Jolie is too associated with the actress then honestly, seeing the title of your post 'Bree' has reminded me of brie cheese (and turkey and brie sausage rolls).

I like Jenna best off yout list.

Jaybird43 · 03/12/2022 07:25

Sophie / Sophia is my favourite ❤️

Y7drama · 03/12/2022 07:26

Makes me think of cheese and desperAte housewives (have just rewatched it!). I like Chloe Sophie and Jenna from your list.

Jaybird43 · 03/12/2022 07:26

sorry - pressed send too soon! Bree is nice but, for me, it’s very American and does remind me of cheese

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 03/12/2022 07:27

Bree is great . Jenna too . Definitely not Angel. Others bit popular.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 03/12/2022 07:27

Desperate housewives!

Tombero · 03/12/2022 07:29

I’m afraid I instantly thought of the TV programme Desperate Housewives. Or of Brie and cranberry.

with the exception of Jolie (because of the actress connotation) I like the other names. Although I know some children called Angel I do wonder how well the name will work as an adult.

Cotswoldmama · 03/12/2022 07:30

I really like Angel it makes me think of the character from Home and Away years ago played by Melissa George!

NancyJoan · 03/12/2022 07:31

I know a Gabriella, nn Bree. It’s a nice name.

LostInTheColonies · 03/12/2022 08:02

Cheese. Why would you do that to your child?

Jenna and Annabel (spelled like that - classier than Annabelle) are nice. Jenna less-used, too.

lifeinthehills · 03/12/2022 08:04

Bree is fine. I'd probably prefer it as a short form of something else, but nothing wrong with just Bree.

MassiveSalad22 · 03/12/2022 08:06

I like it! I prefer the look of Brie but that’s extra cheesy. We considered Gabriella as it has so many shortenings, Brielle/Brie being one. I’d go Brielle/Gabriella nn Bree.

We lean a bit dated too with girl names, DD has an 80s name. I think we’re just a bit ahead of our time as 80s name will be back in in 20 years 😉

BishyBarnyBee · 03/12/2022 08:10

Will always be a Narnian talking horse for me.

Overthebow · 03/12/2022 08:10

I’d think you really liked the cheese and wanted to name your DC after it. Nothing wrong with that if you do love cheese.

lifeinthehills · 03/12/2022 08:11

Brianna?

ExhaustedMama68 · 03/12/2022 08:11

I don’t mind Bree as a nickname but not so much a full name (do quite like Brianna)
my favourite from your list is Jenna

Spanielsarepainless · 03/12/2022 08:17

...and her brother Edam...

Beanbagtrap · 03/12/2022 08:18

As a nickname for Brianne or by Brianna.

Beanbagtrap · 03/12/2022 08:18

Or Aubrey

TrixJax · 03/12/2022 08:33

American and cheese

momlette · 03/12/2022 08:36

Breagha is lovely pronounced Bree-a. So is Brianna. Bree on its own doesn’t seem completed somehow it seems like an exclamation of some sort !

LadyWithLapdog · 03/12/2022 08:39

Too much like cheese. I like all your other choices.

Dinoteeth · 03/12/2022 08:41

Smelly cheese, don't do that to your child.

Tripsabroad · 03/12/2022 08:44

Like a pp, American and cheese. Not a fan tbh, I like others on your list more. On the other hand, I've, never met anyone called Bree.
