Lovely name but much prefer the traditional spelling.

PeekAtYou · 04/12/2022 15:39

Great name but the spelling might be why your friend thinks chavvy.
Aaliyah is probably the most known way to spell it in the UK

PeekAtYou · 04/12/2022 15:40

The spelling looks strange because of the well known name Leah. Leeah looks like you were trying to create a new unique name

NewDogOwner · 04/12/2022 16:11

Beautiful name; terrible spelling.

Differentnamedifferentplace · 04/12/2022 16:20

Awful spelling. A nice name if you have Arabic or Muslim heritage. A bit wierd if you don't. A bit like calling a white child Sanjay.

Lovely name but much prefer the traditional spelling.

It is a traditional spelling though - but obviously not one many people recognise. I agree it just looks like you’re then being ‘kree8tyv’ with the name Leah, particularly if you don’t actually have any Arabic or Eastern heritage.

No, but I like Aaliyah.

Carbon12 · 05/12/2022 17:29

I taught a girl called Aleah.

There's one two many 'e's in your spelling.

Carbon12 · 05/12/2022 17:36

Also, the name 'Aaliyah' is pronounced differently to what OP is after.

Aleah is nice if you want the 'lee' sound in the middle.

Aaliyah/Aliya is nice if you want it pronounced how it is in Arabic.

Gingersnappy · 06/12/2022 16:55

I like the name and know a couple handfuls of girls with the name--I dislike the spelling you have though. I think it's much prettier spelled the original way (Aaliyah), Aliyah, or Alia

Purplemagnolias · 06/12/2022 17:09

But Aleah would be Al eh ah

I think the op wants Aleeah pronounced

Al ee ah

Purplemagnolias · 06/12/2022 18:10

Actually Aleah could even be mispronounced as Ale-ah (2 syllables)!

Like I said I taught a girl whose name was 'Aleah' and it was pronounced in the way the OP is after.

That's all I'm going based off of.

Aaliyah was popular when I was younger due the R&B singer (RIP Aaliyah).

I don’t see anything wrong with it personally.

Koalie · 05/01/2023 17:07

I think it's as hideous as your recent post re your views on IVF. You should educate yourself on infertility and consider the utter pain that it causes people before writing your views on a forum full of people struggling to conceive. Adoption is not a cure for infertility. It comes with it's own expenses and struggles - your own fertility privilege means you will never understand this so the best thing you can do is mind your own effing business! :)

Firebird83 · 05/01/2023 22:15

I like it spelled Aliyah

Penguinsaregreat · 06/01/2023 07:54

It’s a no from me. Ok if you are of Arabic heritage. It will get misspelt and mispronounced. Also A names are very common with baby girls and have been for the last couple of years, which puts me off.
