Do you have Arabic or Muslim heritage?

Your friend is right

I hear the song "More than a woman".

Singer Aaliyah died in a plane crash.

Sandysandwich · 02/12/2022 20:29

Its a pretty name, only ever seen it spelt Aaliyah though

fairycupcakes · 02/12/2022 20:36

As many pp have said what I think you’re looking for is Aaliyah. What you’ve spelt looks very much made up and I can see why your friend thought “chavvy” because of that. Spell it correctly and it’s beautiful. What matters in the end is what you and DH love.

Is it pronounced aar-leah or uh-lear?

Is this a joke I'm missing? Or do you just have one of those accents that inserts a "r" in every word?

Jacksfesteringresentment · 02/12/2022 20:54

I think it's a lovely name.

From the spelling I would pronounce it A LEE ah, is that right?

Aaliyah seems to be a different name, pronounced Ali-a or A-lie-a?

I know it's an accent thing, but it grates on me when people put R's in words that don't have them.

roseberrycherry · 02/12/2022 21:07

It's a nice name, just not spelled like that.

JustJustWhy · 02/12/2022 21:11

Looks like one of those names where you turned up pissed at the registry office and spelled it wrong.

KindergartenKop · 02/12/2022 21:11

@BruceWaynettaSlob hahaha I actually do!

Sipping my cider in a barn as I type.

ElsieC22 · 02/12/2022 21:15

I would spell it Aaliyah if you’re using the same pronunciation but I think it’s a lovely name

username8888 · 02/12/2022 21:17

Spelling is chavvy but not the name

HairyKitty · 02/12/2022 21:26

It’s looks like a mispronunciation/misspell of the Arabic name Aaliyah (emphasis on the Aa not on the lee)

Proudofitbabe · 02/12/2022 21:31

Changing to a phonetic spelling is chavvy

Djorkaeff · 03/12/2022 03:29

I know a girl called Aleah. I genuinely wasn't sure how to pronounce it at first.

Alopeciabop · 03/12/2022 03:43

I know an Aliyah and it’s a lovely name. Just reiterating because it’s 4am and I’m on mumsnet what everyone else has said, which is that it’s your spelling not the name

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 03/12/2022 04:25

Not keen, especially with your spelling.

garlictwist · 03/12/2022 04:35

I work with an Aliyah. She's from the Middle East I think. I'm afraid your version does sound a bit made up.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/12/2022 05:07

Never three vowels in a row. It's like a terrible round of Countdown.

Just spell it properly.

sneezingpandamum · 03/12/2022 05:55

Is there a reason why you can't spell it conventionally?

Unique / miss spelt names are chavvy sorry OP I'm with your friend on that one

FayCarew · 04/12/2022 10:31

Too many vowels. The Aaliyah spelling or Leah is better.

CaptainCastillo · 04/12/2022 15:10

Sorry, but I also think your version sounds a little made up. Aaliyah Is better Imo.

ArcticSkewer · 04/12/2022 15:16

Really why spell it that way?? Are you prone to this kind of thing, hence your friend's pointed 'chav' comment?
It's a nice name. No need to overkill the vowels. Imagine having to spell that out on the phone all the time.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 04/12/2022 15:33

It's a Middle Eastern name and beautiful when spelt in a traditional format.

JamSandle · 04/12/2022 15:36

I dont like the spelling
