Hi guys, I am in desperate need of help deciding a name for baby girl due end of December! I am down to two names which and they are Lydia or Lara.

Which one do you guys prefer and the least common?

many thanks :) X

I really like Lara 🙂

Good luck hope everything goes well x

Lydia

SpringIntoChaos · 01/12/2022 07:58

Not helpful I know, but I like both, so whichever one you pick will be lovely 🥰

BigsyMalone · 01/12/2022 07:59

Lydia! Lyddie as a nickname. Classic.

NeedToKnow101 · 01/12/2022 07:59

Lara or course! I know 2 lovely Lara's. Lydia would be fine if it wasn't for aunt Lydia

NoSquirrels · 01/12/2022 07:59

How about Lyra?

(But if I was choosing between your two I’d choose Lydia.)

bravotango · 01/12/2022 08:29

I slightly prefer Lara but why not wait until she's here and pick from the two? She might look more like one than the other? They're both lovely!

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 01/12/2022 08:36

Lara is really lovely. Lydia is frumpy and has the horrible 'lid' sound which is harsh.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/12/2022 08:50

I like both but I’d go for Lydia

There are so many Lara/Lena/Lola/Lyra/Leah/Luna names - they all blur into one

Snoopystick · 01/12/2022 08:52

Sorry to add in another name but what about Libby? It’s softer sounding than Lydia.

Lyra is lovely

clarrylove · 01/12/2022 08:59

My husband always says Lydia dustbin, which kind of out me off. Not too keen on Lara either, I always seem to say it with an Australian accent. I like Libby, Lola, Lyra though.

WoSarah · 01/12/2022 09:07

Both are nice names but I would go for Lara

MaggieMagpie357 · 01/12/2022 09:19

Definitely Lara, it's beautiful

emmathedilemma · 01/12/2022 09:58

Lydia

cantba · 01/12/2022 10:52

Both pretty.

lifeinthehills · 01/12/2022 11:01

I prefer Lydia but I once knew a lovely Lara. She was such a lovely person. So I like that one too.

spiderlight · 01/12/2022 11:42

Lara, although I like both.

lucxxx · 01/12/2022 14:27

Thank you all for your responses! It’s such as hard decision. I think I may have to take bravotango’s advice and wait till she is here and see which one she more suits!

thanks again 🥰 Xx

Lydia.
Lara is a bit nothingness imo.

princessrapunzel · 01/12/2022 15:15

Ive just had i lydia! So im obviously biased

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 01/12/2022 15:19

I think both are nice. Being a high-brow intellectual I used to watch TOWIE, and there was a Lydia on that whose name was pronounced li-JAHHHH. Sounded bloody awful. So don't pick Lydia if you're from Essex.

Mummytobe333 · 01/12/2022 15:21

I love Lydia 💗

OKild09 · 01/12/2022 15:23

Lydia for me 😊

Lullabies2Paralyze · 01/12/2022 15:31

Lydia (even though it reminds me of pride and prejudice I prefer it as Lara reminds me of Tomb Raider which I have no love for haha)

lara will also spend most her life correcting people who call her Laura
