My sister named her kids like my kids

Hi new poster here. I have 3 children. 1 girl and two boys.

Our eldest "Jordan" was born in January. My brother's wife gave birth to a boy in November the same year and named him Jordan. At that point, we didn't care too much because ours was a girl and theirs was a boy.

Then, we had baby n°2 Samuel , he was born in July then in June the next year my brother had his 2nd son and named him Sam ( Not exactly the same, but still)

My husband was super pissed off, and struggled to accept it. But my family found it so cute, that I just went with it.

Last year in December we welcomed our third baby and son Theodore. Yes, you guessed it. My sister-in-law gave birth to a baby boy 2 weeks ago and named him Theo.

My husband refuses to visit my family now. I asked my parents, don't you find it fucking weird??? They said no. It's cute. My husband finds it creepy and so do I.

I travelled alone to see the baby, and once her and I were alone I lost my shit. I told her something like this

" You and your fucking husband need to find a personality and stop copying us. You are a sick b*tch, what do you want from me?"

Then she went on to say " Well there's nothing you can do".

Now I keep receiving texts from my parents telling me how horrible I am, how I should we should be flattered.
This whole situation makes me feel so uneasy. My nephews are named like my kids !!!

What do you think? Should I just be happy about it?

That is very strange. Once is a little weird, three times is a little crazy.

JennyForeigner · 30/11/2022 13:52

This might be the most bizarre thing I ever read on MN.

Flooper · 30/11/2022 13:52

So she your brother's wife? What does he make of it all?

It's VERY weird behaviour of course and I'd have had the same reaction as you. Single White Female vibes. She hates you but wants to be you.

BackOnTheBandWagon · 30/11/2022 13:53

It's very weird, but what you said to her was disgusting

NewhereNL · 30/11/2022 13:54

Flooper

She is my brother's wife yes

It’s definitely very weird and I’d be annoyed but I think you were a bit aggressive.

WimpoleHat · 30/11/2022 13:55

This is seriously weird. Okay, you can imagine a situation where, say, she’d always wanted to call a son Sam after her Granddad or something like that. But all three is just - bizarre.

Your response was appalling and you should be ashamed. I hope it wasn't said in front of any of the kids.

BackOnTheBandWagon

Yes I was rude and insulting. I will admit it. But it's driving me crazy.

oh sorry, just re-read your initial post where you said that.

NewhereNL · 30/11/2022 13:56

No it was just her and me

PipsBaby · 30/11/2022 13:57

This is beyond weird.. the kids will find this so strange when they get older too

MolliciousIntent · 30/11/2022 13:57

Are you usually this rude to her? Is she maybe doing this to get back at you? Did you speak to your brother about it?

RolleenCooney · 30/11/2022 13:58

Why is your anger directed at your SIL and not your own brother? very weird behaviour from all parties

Ashamed my ass.

NewhereNL · 30/11/2022 14:00

My brother says , when I asked him multiple times that his wife loved the names, and it makes her feel part of the family. Idk what that means.

I told him what I think, he has the same blasé attitude " oh you don't own names... we are family ... they are all the same age and have the same name it's cute..."

OP posts:
musttryharder84 · 30/11/2022 14:00

It definitely is weird - unless there is some family reason behind the names.
But what you said to her is awful. She isn't a 'sick b*tch' just because she likes the names you chose

SunshineAndFizz · 30/11/2022 14:00

Yeah. This all really happened.

NewhereNL · 30/11/2022 14:01

She is a sicko. She always gets pregnant after/ at the same time and pick the same names?

Come on one maybe,but 3?

OP posts:
maranella · 30/11/2022 14:01

I've read some weird shit on MN over the years, but this takes the biscuit.

No-one, unless they were seriously deranged, would copy their in-laws baby names in order to 'feel part of the family'.

If this is real, your SIL is a fucking psycho!! I would be staying well away from her in future.

MolliciousIntent · 30/11/2022 14:03

Then why on earth are you going to visit her? And why is this all her fault and not your brother's?

TidyDancer · 30/11/2022 14:03

This is weird and I would definitely have steered clear of her. What you said was vile though and if she actually is unhinged then what you've said certainly would not help anyone.

NewhereNL · 30/11/2022 14:03

MolliciousIntent

No. I never talk to her. I see her at family gathering only. I don't even have her phone number.

OP posts:
GloomyDarkness · 30/11/2022 14:05

Hmm - I could just see this happening but three times and get pg at similar time/same year and rest of family including shared GPs not thinking it weird as fuck - that I struggle to understand.

Honestly I'd keep distance from them all - and don't discuss it with parents.

iAteSantasPie · 30/11/2022 14:06

Very bizarre behaviour from brother and SIL. Though you probably shouldn't have reacted that way but you know that. If it was just the one name copied I wouldn't be bothered but 3 is.... crazy.

I once had a bf whose sister would copy me to an eerie degree- got a tabby cat after I did, gave it the same name, applied to place I worked, cut her hair from long to a bob after I had etc. Lots of odd copy cat behaviour.
