Robyn.. but different!

my name is Robyn. I hate it. I’ve always disliked the name and I’ve been thinking about changing it for a while, I don’t want anything too different since I’ve been Robyn for nearly 30 years, but it just doesn’t “fit”.
i was thinking of re-naming myself something Robyn could be short for and Roberta is all I’ve come up with, but Roberta has been something people have called me in a “jokey” way and I’m worried they’ll think it’s just an extension of the joke! Plus it’s very similar to my original name.

Bobbie and Robbie are both off the cards, as close family members have those names, can anyone add anything creative?

Robina? Though people will undoubtedly say Ribena.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/11/2022 23:19

I love Robin, though I know that’s probably not very helpful

Rowen or Rowena ?

TwelveThirty · 18/11/2022 23:24

Robyn is a top tier name. Why do you want to change it?

Chasingclouds100 · 18/11/2022 23:25

I love the names Robin and Roberta! Honestly I do, they are on my list if I ever have another baby daughter

winteryblues · 18/11/2022 23:36

Robyn is one of my favourite names ever not helpful

Roberta just reminds me of in OITNB when the old lady is calling it out repeatedly.

Ramona or Rowena?

The female spelling is usually Rae.

SprinkleOfInsanity · 18/11/2022 23:39

Binnie? I knew a wonderful woman with this name, it was short for something, but I don't actually know what. The name Binnie really suited her.

sevenbyseven · 18/11/2022 23:40

I really like Robyn 🤷‍♀️

How about Rowan, or is that too similar?

What kind of names do you like, so we have some clue what you're looking for?

Bunda · 18/11/2022 23:40

@ClivePowermax we definitely do because I think Robyn is a lovely name. But if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit!

TheBirdintheCave · 18/11/2022 23:40

Bryony maybe? It has all the Robyn letters :)

Fraaahnces · 18/11/2022 23:40

Robijn (rhymes with fine) is the Dutch equivalent) and it also means Ruby
While we’re at it, how about Ruby? It’s a gorgeous name.

I think Robyn is lovely

MarmiteCoriander · 18/11/2022 23:43

What is your middle name? Do you like that or could use a nickname from that???

xJ0y · 18/11/2022 23:47

I'd just take the 'b' sound out and go for Rowyn
Rowyn is nice, but honestly, Robyn is just as nice. Think you're too close to the source to be objective.

Ro is nice but people would ask what it 's short for.

Roberta is horrible sorry.

NotABeliever · 18/11/2022 23:48

Ruby is a genius suggestion!

xJ0y · 18/11/2022 23:48

oh yeh, Ruby is lovely and it is not a ridiculous ''explain that'' kind of leap from Robyn to ruby

AnneTwackie · 18/11/2022 23:48

I’m with @Fraaahnces I love Ruby!

xJ0y · 18/11/2022 23:50

Oh yeh, Roisin
Well, it starts with r and ends in n and has two syllables!

Ellie1015 · 18/11/2022 23:51

Rosie or Ruby are similar and lovely names.
