Lois…

We’ve finally decided that DD1 is going to be called Lois.

Only problem is her middle name is to be Alice after my grandma. And it just doesn’t flow.
I’m not opposed to having another name in between them and her having two middle names but we don’t have anything else meaningful or that we both like. Any suggestions of something that fits nicely?

Surname is a weed that grows on rocks and rhymes with boss.

I can't think of anything that doesn't make it sound off. Lois Jane Alice Moss (as an example) still sounds odd because of the similarity in sound of Lois and Alice. So if it's going to sound weird regardless, maybe just go with Lois Alice Moss. Nobody ever uses middle names anyway.

Underhisi · 11/11/2022 18:29

What about Alicia instead of Alice.

TropicalTenticle · 11/11/2022 18:29

*odd

NewtoHolland · 11/11/2022 18:34

Lois and Alice really echo each other both beautiful names though :)

GlassDeli · 11/11/2022 18:35

There are some related names which would sound nice. Alicia is a good call. There are some more here including Adelaide, Adeline, Alyssa and Aislinn.

Underhisi · 11/11/2022 18:36

Although if you really want Alice I would leave it as Lois Alice rather than putting a filler name in.

Foxtrot101 · 11/11/2022 19:28

I adore the name Lois.
I think to fully break them you need a longer 1st middle name such as:
Lois Gabriella Alice
Lois Francesca Alice
Lois Catherine Alice
Lois Olivia Alice

sopeas · 11/11/2022 20:00

I love that Lois seems to be making a comeback!

I agree with the PP that says a longer (3 or 4 syllable) name in between will work!

my suggestions, I hope they are helpful! ☺️

Lois Vivienne Alice
Lois Alexandra Alice

Lois Penelope Alice
Lois Eleanor Alice

How do you pronounce Lois Confused? Loyce??

OwwwMuuuum · 11/11/2022 20:03

Low-is?

Hmm, could you just call her Alis?

How do you pronounce Lois Confused? Loyce??

That's how we pronounce it in Welsh, but I actually thought it was a man's name in English. The Low-is pronunciation suggested by Owww sounds quite masculine to me.

Kanaloa · 11/11/2022 20:08

I guess you could go Lois Alison/Lois Alicia. For me I’d just leave it as Lois Alice. Nobody ever gets called by both names realistically.

wizzler · 11/11/2022 20:13

My first thought was that Lois Alice doesn't flow but after only a few minutes I think it's fine ... perhaps not if your surname was Ellis, but otherwise I like it.

sopeas · 11/11/2022 20:14

It’s pronounced Lo- iss, never in my life have I heard someone say Loyce 🥴 we’ve all heard of Lois Lane right?

Sandysandwich · 11/11/2022 20:14

Slightly 'harder' sounding names might help disrupt the soft sounds.
Lois Harper Alice
Lois Jade Alice
Lois Erin Alice
Lois Freya Alice

RambamThankyouMam · 11/11/2022 20:16

Lois is a dreadful, lumpen name. Call her Alice!

Lulu1919 · 11/11/2022 20:16

Mmm lots of sssss sounds !
But who cares ..as long as you like the names use them....it's not like people say full name very often

Toddlerteaplease · 11/11/2022 20:18

I knew a Lous Niamh. She had profound disabilities, but the biggest character I've ever met!

KendallRoysRabbit · 11/11/2022 20:23

@sopeas has some excellent suggestions for a middle middle-name.

I love both Lois and Alice - beautiful names!

And definitely pronounced Low-Iss where I'm from.

emma1103 · 11/11/2022 20:23

What about Alicent?

Every Lois that I know (and I know at least 7) pronounces it Loyce. Have never met a Lo-iss. But like the pp I am Welsh.

Gummibär · 11/11/2022 20:37

Every Lois that I know (and I know at least 7) pronounces it Loyce.

That pronunciation makes a lot of sense.

Oi is generally pronounced oy ( oil, oink)

Dreamingcats · 11/11/2022 21:01

As someone who changed their child's middle name because of flow and regret it, I say just use the name you like! No one cares about middle names after the birth announcement!

If you want a third name, then I really like ones that don't begin with S or end in A, and have three or four syllables with the emphasis on the second.

Lois Penelope Alice
Lois Elizabeth Alice
Lois Rhiannon Alice
Lois Naomi Alice
Lois Mackenzie Alice

Etc.

pepperminttaste · 11/11/2022 21:11

Just go with it. I think it's one of those combinations that sounds a bit odd when you overthink it but actually it's perfectly fine! You know, like when you say a word too many times and it just sounds wrong?

My aunt was Lois (Lo-iss), a cousin is Lois and I taught a really lovely Lois a few years ago.

It's a great name and works nicely with Alice!

DramaAlpaca · 11/11/2022 22:04

It might not be OP's style at all, but I love the sound of Lois Mary Alice.
