Lois…

We’ve finally decided that DD1 is going to be called Lois.

Only problem is her middle name is to be Alice after my grandma. And it just doesn’t flow.
I’m not opposed to having another name in between them and her having two middle names but we don’t have anything else meaningful or that we both like. Any suggestions of something that fits nicely?

Surname is a weed that grows on rocks and rhymes with boss.

Thanks everyone some great suggestions. If most of you think it doesn’t sound too weird I might just go with with Lois (Low-iss) Alice…. It’s got to be Alice which is why I’d discounted Lois so early on but we can’t find anything else we both like as much 😫

I think it sounds good. A bit like Finlay Forbes or Amber Andrews! Lois Alice Boss!

ThatshallotBaby · 12/11/2022 07:50

Lois Mary Alice is lovely.
What about Lois Valentina Alice?

EdgeOfACoin · 12/11/2022 08:20

Lois Olivia Alice or Lois Penelope Alice.

I think Lois Olivia Alice is lovely, actually.

I love Lois Mary Alice too.
Also Lois Alice Mary Moss sound cool.
Go with Lois Alice if you like it.
You could also use Louise instead of Lois.

It’s pronounced Lo- iss, never in my life have I heard someone say Loyce 🥴 we’ve all heard of Lois Lane right?

It's a biblical name and is pronounced phonetically in Welsh, as are names like Martha, Elias, Jacob and Eli. Lois (Loyce) is popular in Wales.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/11/2022 09:41

Didn’t you post about this before?

Lois is great.

If she’s due this year how about

Lois Elizabeth Alice

otherwise

Lois Katharine Alice
Lois Imogen Alice
Lois Francesca Alice

Anything really

I’d try and think of a favourite aunt or something, but otherwise just pick something you like

That's how we pronounce it in Welsh, but I actually thought it was a man's name in English. The Low-is pronunciation suggested by Owww sounds quite masculine to me.

Low-iss is how it’s pronounced everywhere other than Wales. It’s a lovely name said Low-iss.

I think there are some fantastic Welsh girls’ names, but the Loyce pronunciation is bloody awful

@Libmama

It will sound better if you put something longer in the middle - there are a billion lovely options

GogLais · 12/11/2022 12:36

@Luredbyapomegranate , you might think so, but it's popular in Wales. I'd guess that of the England &Wales-born Lois's, a large proportion will say it as Loyce. I think it's a pretty name, and nicer than Lo-is, which seems a bit weaker

A Lois (Lo-is) I know's surname before she got married ends in -is. Hadn't really thought much about it, mainly because she was usually just Lois

CaffiSaliMali · 12/11/2022 13:23

Lois is indeed Loyce in Welsh.

I'd break up Lois and Alice with a middle name without any S or S sounds. Lois Mary Alice is lovely as a PP suggested. Most of the time she'll just be referred to a Lois or Lois Surname though.

VenusClapTrap · 12/11/2022 14:27

I like Lois Alice. Ds has a first and middle name that are sort of rhymey in a similar way, for the same reason as you; to honour a relative. It’s fine because nobody ever actually uses the two names together except us, when we are trying to get his attention or something, it’s fun to shout his full name!

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 12/11/2022 14:31

Other than applying for passports etc, I couldn't tell you a time I've used my middle name. I doubt many of my friends even know it. So just use the names that make you happy, OP.

CherryMaple · 12/11/2022 14:33

Lois Alice Moss is complete fine. Good name.

Loyce is most definitely the only way I've heard it other than Lois Lane, and I much prefer it the "Welsh" way.

Yes I'm Welsh but I've also travelled a lot.

No need for the face pulling emoji.

Roselilly36 · 12/11/2022 14:43

I love the nameLois, I think it goes fine with Alice, and the family connection is lovely.

Could you use the name of another grandmother?

AliBaliBears · 12/11/2022 22:09

I'd go with Lois Alice Surname. Sounds absolutely fine to me, and ve

AliBaliBears · 12/11/2022 22:12

..and being realistic she will never be called 'Lois Alice' - it'll either be Lois, or Lois Surname - apart from at graduation or her wedding day when she'll be Lois Alice Surname.

Hobbesmanc · 13/11/2022 11:45

I love the name Lois. It conjures up an image of a feisty woman in nineteen forties America. Like Rosie the riveter. Or maybe running a hard boiled diner. I'm not actually sure what a hard boiled diner looks like mind you

But anyway it's a really strong name with a vintage feel.
