Are Casper and Kit posh names?

I mentioned these two names in passing to a friend and she made a quick remark that they’re “awfully posh”. It took me by surprise as I didn’t think so! I thought of them as similar to George - classless/used by all.
We’re in South West London, if that makes any difference!

Yes.
Straight out of a Jilly Cooper novel. Smile

Lillysmamma · 10/11/2022 01:39

Yes, very posh.

Greenwich or Croydon, because that DOES make a difference. Grin

GlassDeli · 10/11/2022 01:48

Yes. London has its own fashions for baby names Londoners will say that a certain name is 'everywhere' yet in another part of the country no-one uses it.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 10/11/2022 01:51

There are quite a few C/Kaspers round my area in London. Kit is nice , but makes me think of the guy from Game of Thrones .

YerAWizardHarry · 10/11/2022 02:00

The Caspers I know are generally of Eastern European heritage (although usually spelt differently)

We’re SW3!

Yes. At least, the only ones I know are the sons of very well off families.

georgarina · 10/11/2022 02:56

I know a family with a Caspar and similarly named siblings. Did strike me as tryhard 😂

Blablablaaaaa · 10/11/2022 03:40

No, not posh or working class. They are in that mid range

Spookypig · 10/11/2022 05:00

Maybe once, but not anymore. The only Kits I know are lovely little boys from working class families; the only Casper I know is too. They’re becoming much more used by all different groups. I like them both.

autienotnaughty · 10/11/2022 05:08

I'm from oop north. Casper is definitely posh. Didn't think kit was as tho.

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 10/11/2022 05:11

Yes, posh. Especially if Kit is Christopher, eg Kit Marlow.

Moonshine5 · 10/11/2022 05:14

Not round here no, were very popular during pandemic.

custardbear · 10/11/2022 05:15

I've always loved the name Kit, but as my DD is Tabitha I think Kit for DS is a cat too far lol 😆

Go for it with the names, they're both nice

ImNotOnTwitterButMySupportGoldfinchTweets · 10/11/2022 05:16

Besides the point, but Greenwich and Croydon aren’t in South West London.

I’m from SE London and agree that London does names a bit differently. I would say you’re more likely to encounter names thought “posh” elsewhere across the board here. I think Kit is lovely, and not posh at all.

Chomolungma · 10/11/2022 05:20

They used to be but not any more.

We’re SW3!

And you're wondering if you're posh? Bless.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 10/11/2022 06:38

Casper, yes. Kit, no

RJnomore1 · 10/11/2022 06:43

The rooneys have sons called kit and cass. There’s a very well known soccer casual from the 80s, West Ham I think though don’t quite me on that, called cass too.

Absolutely not.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 10/11/2022 06:50

Casper - definitely
Kit - possibly

RambamThankyouMam · 10/11/2022 06:53

The Rooneys have a Kit, and a fashion blogger has a Casper, so no.

Whitewolf2 · 10/11/2022 06:54

Casper is posh, at least it is in the UK

user1494050295 · 10/11/2022 06:59

I know a Casper. Parents are not posh

HarvestThyme · 10/11/2022 07:08

Those names are fairly classless in London.
