Using my mum's name, but with an 'a' stuck on the end?

We've fallen in love with the name Louisa. My mum's name is Louise... would it be weird to call our daughter Louisa because of this?

We just like the name, and if my mum wasn't called Louise, we would 100 percent go for it. I'd also like to hear from MILs if possible, would it piss you off if your grandchild had a variation of your son's wife's mum's name? Wow, that was a mouthful 😅

As a mil It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. It's a lovely name

TheYearOfSmallThings · 09/11/2022 09:34

Lovely name and very normal to call a baby after a relative.

SalviaOfficinalis · 09/11/2022 09:34

Lovely name, I’d go for it! I have exactly the same name as my aunt and it’s never caused any confusion.

cantkeepawayforever · 09/11/2022 09:38

We did this - MiL was ill when dd was expected and died when dd was a baby. We didn’t want to give dd exactly the same name - it felt a bit like bad luck - but consciously chose a very similar one.

SummaLuvin · 09/11/2022 09:39

I don't think it would be weird. But you have to be ok with the fact that a number of people will assume she was named after your mum (whether they say it or not).

TheSleeperandTheSpindle · 09/11/2022 09:44

It was my MILs suggestion that DC had a first or middle name linked to my side of the family considering they would have DH’s surname 😊

Louisa is a lovely name and it’s nice to have that link

Jarofhoney · 09/11/2022 09:45

@SummaLuvin this is true! My mum would also think I named the baby after her probably. This doesn't bother me much, we are very close.

I think it’s a lovely name, we had Luisa on our list (spelt that way as traditional in my husbands home country)

chisum · 09/11/2022 09:46

It's lovely

Jarofhoney · 09/11/2022 09:46

Do you think I should put MIL's name in the middle? My DH doesn't mind either way.

Also lovely to hear so many positive comments about the name 😊

What is your MIL's name?

My sister suggested a name for DD that was my mum's but with an a on the end and to be honest i saw it as a totally different name. In any event we didn't go with it but I say go for Louisa!!

Jarofhoney · 09/11/2022 09:48

MIL's name is Eleanor

Louisa Eleanor is lovely. I would do that personally.

Coolyule · 09/11/2022 09:50

Ooh you are lucky your mums both have lovely names. I would definitely do louisa Eleanor, it’s beautiful and will be lovely for the grandmothers too!

No, not unless you also happpen to love MILs name. Lots of babies are named after a family member- you don't need to name check all of them to make it 'fair'.
Any name you like that goes with Louisa wirks for a middle name

NoSquirrels · 09/11/2022 09:52

Louisa Eleanor is beautiful and classic. Do it. The new grandmothers will be thrilled. Your DD will love it too - my DC have family middle names and they all like to hear about the connections.

MIL's name is Eleanor

Louisa Elanora it is 😂😂

FayCarew · 09/11/2022 09:53

Go for it. Louisa seems a bit different from Louise, and Eleanor is a perfectly OK name, great as a middle name as she won't end up being Ellie

Igmum · 09/11/2022 09:53

I think that's lovely 🥰

Cryingbutstilltrying · 09/11/2022 09:54

That’s a beautiful name, I would absolutely do it. Then if anything is ever said you can just say she’s named after both grandmothers and they can all feel proud.
Lulu is a very cute baby nickname too.
I love your choice!

Jarofhoney · 09/11/2022 10:01

I actually love the combination 😍 Thanks everyone! I was worried the vowel end and beginning would run into each other. But, I think it works. The more I say it, the more sure I am! Louisa Eleanor 💖

Louisa Eleanor is lovely. If you love your MIL and you like the name I'd go with that.

My mum's middle name is my MIL's first name, so DD2 has that as her middle name.
