Using my mum's name, but with an 'a' stuck on the end?

We've fallen in love with the name Louisa. My mum's name is Louise... would it be weird to call our daughter Louisa because of this?

We just like the name, and if my mum wasn't called Louise, we would 100 percent go for it. I'd also like to hear from MILs if possible, would it piss you off if your grandchild had a variation of your son's wife's mum's name? Wow, that was a mouthful 😅

Lovely name, go for it if you have a good relationship. We loved Eloise however discounted it due to my sister being Louise, but I am not close with my sister so it just felt off.

sopeas · 09/11/2022 10:14

Louisa Eleanor is beautiful! Go for it! Both new grandma’s will be delighted 💐

Porridgeislife · 09/11/2022 10:27

Louisa Eleanor is a genuinely beautiful name. The grandmas will be thrilled ❤️

Mariposista · 09/11/2022 10:51

Louisa Eleanor is beautiful.
How lovely that you are considering your MIL feelings too (so not like MN haha).
I will give my daughter my gran's (relatively old fashioned) name as a middle name. Fortunately husband likes it too. And we chose a first name together that we both liked.

TheBeautifulNorth · 09/11/2022 10:54

Louisa Eleanor is beautiful and if the grannies are happy then win-win!

Georgeskitchen · 09/11/2022 10:59

I love the name Louisa, the A on the end makes it seem a whole different name to Louise, not that there is anything wrong with Louise 😀

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 09/11/2022 10:59

Louisa Eleanor is beautiful 🥰.

KitchenSupper · 09/11/2022 11:04

Sounds great.
There’s also Elousia plus different middle name to combine both.
What are the grandfathers’ names — consider expectation management if you might later have a boy.

chickeningonup · 09/11/2022 11:04

Louisa is lovely.

There was an unfortunate girl in my school called Laxative Lou.

Lou-ease does sound like it should be a brand of digestive assistance.

DuchessOfSausage · 09/11/2022 11:09

Elouisa is horrible. It looks like you couldn't choose between Eloise and Louisa, or that you can't spell, @KitchenSupper.

KitchenSupper · 09/11/2022 11:12

Well, it’s an existing name and there’s no sense arguing about taste. Maybe OP likes it, maybe she doesn’t.
I don’t know why it would look like you can’t spell, though, given that’s how the name is spelled.

DuchessOfSausage · 09/11/2022 13:26

@KitchenSupper , Pheobe is a name too and far more popular than Elouisa

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 09/11/2022 13:42

I think it would be kind to include MIL's name too. We didn't use our favourite name for a DD because it's so similar to my mum's (think Susannah and Susan, Rosalie and Rose) and I absolutely vetoed using MIL's (awful, ill fated!) name as a middle name. I love my MIL, so didn't want to hurt her feelings, but there was no way my lovely child was going to have that name. But Louisa Eleanor is lovely, and will have the added benefit of making them both so happy.

Congratulations Flowers

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/11/2022 20:52

No, lovely name, lovely gesture and nothing wrong with adding an a

ELouisa is ridiculous, and will be a life long PITA for her.

Louisa Eleanor is perfectly nice

Or just make it Louisa Mary Eleanor (or something like that) if you don’t want two 3 syllable names ending in ah running together

mathanxiety · 10/11/2022 00:10

Louisa Eleanor is a fabulous name.

Gubu · 10/11/2022 10:44

Lovely name combination.

Dd's name is one letter different to MIL's. MIL thinks dd is named after her. She's not! The name is actually the name I was going to be called but for paternal grandmother related reasons, I wasn't. I love the secret irony of it and both grannies are happy for their own reasons Grin

Choconut · 10/11/2022 11:33

I like all the suggestions - don't think you can go wrong OP!

WinterLobelia · 10/11/2022 13:29

Oh Louisa Eleanor is just a beautiful beautiful name.

I'd be thrilled if I were either of them.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 10/11/2022 21:14

Coolyule · 09/11/2022 09:50

Ooh you are lucky your mums both have lovely names. I would definitely do louisa Eleanor, it’s beautiful and will be lovely for the grandmothers too!

Very lucky indeed. Both my mum and MIL have very... of their generation... names and not in a stylish vintage way either.

Jayneisagirlsname · 10/11/2022 21:20

I have a Louisa and she's beautiful, inside and out. I may be biased 😁.
I obviously love the name and like a PP, think of it as completely different to Louise.
Louisa Eleanor is beautiful!

ScruffMuffin · 12/11/2022 14:29

Both names are beautiful anyway, and won't date. I think her grandmothers will be absolutely delighted!

DramaAlpaca · 12/11/2022 14:57

I adore Louisa and Eleanor goes very nicely with it. Win win.

thegreylady · 25/01/2023 22:11

If it were me which it isn’t I would put Mary between Louisa and Eleanor to avoid the juxtaposed vowels and the ‘r’ sound which can result as in Louisar Eleanor.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/01/2023 22:14

I think it’s a lovely connection and it’s a nice classic name

I think you can just explain to your MIL it isn’t specially after your mum - and anyway I’m guessing the baby has the same surname as her, so fairs fair really
