Please don't be too harsh in comments but which would you choose between Elliot Marshall and Max Marshall? (other choices being Jack, Ethan and Jude but more inclined to these two). Thanks!

I'd pick Elliot unless Max was destined to have a full name (Maximilian or Macsen etc) then I'd choose that.

Is Marshall the surname or middle name?

I like both Elliot and Max, so I’m no help but Elliot Max Marshall would be my choice is Marshall is the surname.

Marshall is the surname yes - we'd probably put the name we didn't choose as a middle name but I'm a bit unfussed about middle names since nobody ever hears them in reality!

Thank you! I think I prefer the name Max but worried that Max Marshall is a bit too superhero ish!

Max marshall is a bit of a strange combination even as a middle name so I'd definitely choose Elliot

twinmum2022 · 08/11/2022 12:20

I prefer Max Marshall out of the two 😊 Doesn't need to Maximilian.. don't know what the hang up is on using longer names on BC when they'll never be called that.

Out of all your names though my favs Jack Marshall.

Thank you! I def prefer the name Max - only the alliteration putting me off really, but the Elliot doesn't have a good nickname so it's tricky! I like Jack too :-) - only worrying it's a bit bland!

Do you have any other DCs that the name would need to flow with? My vote is Max if not

twinmum2022 · 08/11/2022 12:28

The alliteration makes me like it more 😊 memorable name without being ridiculous if you know what I mean.

Elliot Max Marshall flows better. However call him by his middle name if you prefer. My dad and myself are called by our middle names. Bit of a nightmare administratively but we both couldn't imagine being called by our first names!

I personally take the view that certain diminutives can be outgrown once a child reaches adulthood so would prefer to give a child the option of using the full version of the name or being able to choose a different nickname in the future.

For example a Freddie might prefer to go by Frederick as an adult (especially if he ends up with a very formal job). I just think it's good to provide the option :)

Elliot Jack Marshall

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/11/2022 13:48

Like both. Probably prefer Max

Leadfromtheheart · 08/11/2022 14:24

Definitely prefer
Max Marshall
Has a nice ring to it
I know what you mean about alliteration I grew up with two n names hated it but
Max Marshall flows love it x
Good luck 🙂

BananaCocktails · 08/11/2022 14:26

Max Marshall .. it rolls off the tongue nicely and sounds like a superhero name/-I love it !

KirstenBlest · 08/11/2022 14:29

Max doesn't flow with the surname.
I think Elliot flows the best.

Jack is ok, but overused.
Ethan is inoffensive but i know several, and they're mostly Effun.
I don't like Jude at all.

I don't get the full name on the BC thing either, unless it is a name that doesn't stand on its own. I'm not sure how you decide that it stands alone though. Kate and Tina seem ok but Chris and Phil don't

SirChenjins · 08/11/2022 14:30

Elliot Marshall - far nicer. Max Marshall is cute for a little boy superhero, less so on an adult man who's probably outgrown the cape.

LadyDanburysHat · 08/11/2022 14:31

I love the name Elliot, but I do think the alliteration of Max is pretty cool. And I would never use Jack, it is so overused and boring.

SallyWD · 08/11/2022 14:56

Out of those 2 I prefer Max. Out of all your names I much prefer Jude and Jack.

Thank you! It's so fascinating the wide difference in opinions on this thread - I guess I just have to accept that, whatever we choose, some people won't like it :-)
