Really love Clementine but husband has vetoed. Any favourites or other thoughts?

I like Camilla, it makes me think of Gonzo from the muppets.

Primrose
Marigold
Verity
Tabitha
Jemima
Cecily
Octavia
Xanthe

LizTrussPhotoOp · 02/11/2022 10:49

Love Henrietta nn Ettie

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/11/2022 10:53

What about Cassandra? Pretty, classic but definitely underused. Nickname Cassie sounds more modern if she wants that

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/11/2022 10:59

Philippa/Pippa also lovely and my favourite on your list

ThistleSifter · 02/11/2022 11:10

Henrietta is my favourite from the list.

I also like the suggestions of:
Octavia
Allegra
Camille

As you seem to like classic names ending in an “a”, how about Victoria (Tori), Edwina (Eddie), Roberta, Cecilia, Arabella, Cordelia, Freya, Jemima, Sophia or Dahlia?

ouch321 · 02/11/2022 11:12

Well Clementine is v Mumsnet so...

Of the ones you've suggested, my preference is for Emma.

Navyandgolden · 02/11/2022 11:14

Primrose/Marigold/Verity/Tabitha/Jemima/Cecily/Octavia/Xanthe - no to all. Tabitha had been on an early list but didnt make the cut. Cecily i like but feels to exotic.
Cassandra - torn on this one. DH and I discussed it. I like it but i dont like Sandra so won't use it.
Anna - lovely classic name but dont love it enough, cant explain why although I like names with nn's so potentially that.

Love Clementine but DH couldnt get past the teen/tine pronounciation. Quite keen on a name that in the UK at least has a standard prounounciation. Such a shame as I love it and the nn's.

Victoria (Tori) - dont like the nn's
Edwina (Eddie) - feels a bit old fashioned
Roberta - really like but DH didnt
Cecilia - too exotic
Arabella - common where we are
Cordelia - thank you, adding to the list.
Freya - feels quite plain
Jemima, Sophia or Dahlia - not keen

Cassandra usually cassie/cas i think rather than sandra...

Henrietta - lots of options...probably fave of your list..

Cecile is fab also like Cecily as in sweet cecily the herb...

Clementine was my fave ... also genevieve... had a boy so none used!

VenusClapTrap · 02/11/2022 11:40

I love Philippa and Henrietta. Also Cecily - surprised you find it exotic. It’s very old fashioned English, like the other names you’ve shortlisted.

How about:
Saskia
Marjolaine
Miranda
Lucinda

Mumofgirls2017 · 02/11/2022 11:59

Henrietta! Others

jemima
matilda
eva
helena
penelope
alexandra
roberta
beatrice
emmeline
harriet
josephine
juliet
tabitha
theodore
clara
eloise
rosalind
dorothea
georgiana

JayPritchet · 02/11/2022 12:20

Henrietta because then she has a fratellis song for her.

ThistleSifter · 02/11/2022 12:44

Just adding a few extra potential options -
Anastasia, Mariella, Tabitha, Theodora, Magdalena, Antonia, Alexandria, Isabella, Claudia.

ArnoldBee · 02/11/2022 12:50

In my 45 years of being a Pippa and travelled extensively the only issue I only ever had was from my workmates during the Olympics held in Greece. Except for mumsnet its never been mentioned!

ThistleSifter · 02/11/2022 12:50

Just realised Tabitha is a no - I quite like the nn Tabs or Tabby, but can see how it’d potentially be like ‘keeping Tabs’ or like a cat now I’ve thought about it a bit more!

I also like Ophelia except it reminds me of groping ie “let’s have Ophelia buttocks” - but it’s a beautiful name (& I’m probably in the minority thinking like that)

Pemba · 02/11/2022 12:51

Clarissa? (you can also get Cass/Cassie from that, and no danger of Sandra!).
Christina
Georgina
Julia
Sylvia
Helena
Rosalind
Viola
Miranda (OK I seem to be riffing on Shakespeare now!)

Apileofballyhoo · 02/11/2022 13:07

Alexandra
Elizabeth
Charlotte
Theodora
Marianne
Louisa

sopeas · 02/11/2022 13:09

I actually love Camilla. I also really like Emma.

But what about Camellia?

Amelie
Georgiana
Charlotte
Sophie
Martha
Jemima
Francesca
Gabrielle/a
Claudia
Collette
Juliet
Frances

littlemissdizzy00 · 02/11/2022 13:19

Arabella?
I personally love Clementine, shame your husband had vetoed

fruitbrewhaha · 02/11/2022 14:37

Pamela? I feel it's due a resurgence and would be quite trendy.

Alice
India
Seraphina
Genevieve
Valentina
Araminta
Reine
Tamara
Persephone
Pascalle

Wibbly1008 · 02/11/2022 14:39

i know a phillipa and she gets called Phil…just saying

VenusClapTrap · 02/11/2022 14:41

Philomena?

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/11/2022 14:58

Emma or Philippa

Allegra is also great

Adela
Fernanda
Cassia
Diana
Sabrina
Saskia
Estella
Miranda
Georgiana
Rosaria
Christabel
Marianne
Genevievre
Selene (Sell-ee-nee)
Ione (Eye-oh-nee)
Ismene (Iz-me-nee)
Ianthe
Verity

Might also work

I do like Henrietta but I wouldn't honestly want to be called it (still screams green wellies... Georgiana does too, mind you), Camilla nice enough but will inevitably end up Milly which is insipid and boring. (Camilla is deffo nicer than Camille though - as a rule latin variations do better in English better than French, I think.)

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/11/2022 15:01

Also

Flora
Edwina

CantSleepCountingSheep · 02/11/2022 15:05

Camille - we thought about this name but neither of us have European links and it felt a bit exotic

It's just French!
