Really love Clementine but husband has vetoed. Any favourites or other thoughts?

Emma

Camilla makes me think of royals and the other are girls versions of boys names and I prefer stand alone girls names.

RambamThankyouMam · 02/11/2022 15:09

Emma.

The others sound like a trio of Sloane Rangers in a cafe on the King's Road in 1989.

I know a young adult Philippa Harriet and she is called Pippa/Pip/Pippi and uses Philippa when she wants to be seen as very grown up.

LaLaLouella · 02/11/2022 15:29

How about Genevieve?

TenoringBehind · 02/11/2022 16:57

Emma

timeless, classic, and everyone can spell it

quietnightmare · 02/11/2022 17:04

Camilla - makes me think of prince Charles's side chick
Emma - boring
Henrietta - henry is awful nn
Phillippa- Phil is awful, so good luck with getting the nn pippa

Emma and Philippa seem quite 90s to me.
I know a baby Henrietta and she is kwown as Hettie, also know a 3 yo Camilla who is known as Millie. I prefer these by far. I wouldn’t automatically think of Camilla and the royals, it’s just a nice name.

Allegra is the name of a car and also an antihistamine in the US.

Emma is my favourite from your list. Whilst I know a number of people with that name, all bar one are over 35 (I'm a teacher who works across multiple schools and can't remember the last time I encountered a pupil named Emma).

If you're after classic but underused, names such as Susan, Mary, Hannah, Rachel, Laura and Louisa may fit the bill. They've had their moments of popularity but aren't overly popular in 2022.

soulinablackberrypie · 02/11/2022 21:12

I love Emma and that would be my choice.

I quite like both Henrietta and Camilla, although I probably wouldn't use Camilla now because everyone would assume it was inspired by the Queen.

Philippa is a nice enough name, but very prone to getting misspelt. I think that would put me off.

How about

Josephine
Celeste or Celestine
Seraphina
Thea
Phyllida

They're all nice names. Camille is nice as Harriet. Phillipa will be a Pippa.

Your dh has vetoed Clementine.
What about Clemency ?

Not necessarily. I have a close friend called Philippa. She’s mostly just Philippa in it’s entirety, with an occasional Phil or Pip. Never Pippa.

Yep! 😂

It's Philippa. You don't spell Philip like this - Phillip - no idea why everyone does it for Philippa. I speak from experience 😁.

From your list, I love Emma.
I think there are fewer Emmas than Camillas, Henriettas or Philippas.

Teeshirt · 05/11/2022 17:19

I like your list.
Camilla is my favourite -it’s much better than the slightly wet Camille, which will have pronunciation issues. I like Henrietta too.

Caroline
