Are there many Emily's under 13 nowadays?

I think the name emily is lovely and i have been thinking about the name for my baby but i'm worried it might sound abit dated on a baby in 2022. I recently looked up the top names in the UK and it is number 19 on the list. Is it common for little kids nowadays? I remember the name blowing up in the late 90s/2000s the last time it was number one was in 2003 and 2004 but i'm curious if anyone knows any young children with the name, i'd imagine the majority of girls named emily where 13+ now.

There are loads at my children’s primary school, at least one per year group. I also know another 3 under 7, outside of school.

I know 5! All aged 2-5. It's very popular where I am

You can see the numbers year on year here:
www.behindthename.com/name/emily/top/england-wales

This is an interesting one, because it only left the top 5 a few years ago. But in numbers, it's been declining since the mid-90s. When it was the #1 name there were fewer each year than when it was #4. More diversity of girls' names now.

But there's still plenty of them each year. I don't think it's dates yet. I know one toddler Emily (but three toddler Emmelines!).

Yes there is an Emily in my daughters class at school and she is 6

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/10/2022 18:14

My dc are 14 and 11, it certainly not an uncommon name amongst their peers.

redbigbananafeet · 27/10/2022 18:15

I have taught two Emelis in the past two years both under 7

bluebird3 · 27/10/2022 18:17

I know two under 5

QforCucumber · 27/10/2022 18:18

2 in 6 year old ds class, 3 under 3 in 2 year old ds2 nursery

toastofthetown · 27/10/2022 18:29

If you are in England and Wales the number of Emilys born per year since 1996 is here. It does sound dated to me, probably because I of the peak in popularity and the significant and ongoing decline since.

mintich · 27/10/2022 18:29

Jackiebrambles · 27/10/2022 18:30

My dd is 7 and there's an Emily in her class and one in the opposite class, it's very popular at our school!

womanofthemoon · 27/10/2022 18:31

I know quite a few, friends of my younger siblings who are 10 and 13.

Bookiewookie · 27/10/2022 18:37

I know 2 Emily’s under 1

caitlinrose · 27/10/2022 18:38

It's still in the top 20, so yes.

But it always depends a bit on your region as well.

northernbelle84 · 27/10/2022 18:40

I have a 1yo Emily and we know millions under 5 (well nearly - one other at every playgroup, class, friendship group etc). It's still very popular, especially amongst slightly older mums, as borne out by Dark Greener etc.

It's a lovely name and classic. But she may get a bit lost among the Millie, Emilia, Amelia, Emma crowd (also v popular round here)

tiredmumma8696 · 27/10/2022 18:40

I have an Emily in the family, she's just turned 3

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/10/2022 18:49

I know a couple of little Emily’s, although I think it’s been less popular than Emilia and Emmeline recently. It’s a nice name, but if you add all the Emmas (there are still baby Emmas) and Emmies… there are a lot of Em names..

Dassams · 27/10/2022 19:01

Wasn't Emily THE most popular name for number of years recently? We know SO many Emilys ages 15-20 and to me it is definitely starting to feel dated.

Anything that is very fashionable inevitably falls out of fashion and becomes dated

TheTeddyBears · 27/10/2022 19:03

My little girl is 5 and I was against the name because of how popular it is. We are in Scotland. My little girl had 3 in her class at nursery and the teacher was also called Emily 🙈 she's now at school though and none in her class. It's still very popular though I know so many and of so many different ages/adults.

KezzabellaB · 27/10/2022 19:04

I think it's a lovely name, one that never goes out of fashion Smile

RedWingBoots · 27/10/2022 19:04

Yes it's common for little girls plus older girls.

Funny thing in my circle you are naming your daughter after a 40 year old woman.

weebarra · 27/10/2022 19:04

DD is 9, she has two Emilys as friends.

Dassams · 27/10/2022 19:22

* I* think it's a lovely name, one that never goes out of fashion
