I think the name emily is lovely and i have been thinking about the name for my baby but i'm worried it might sound abit dated on a baby in 2022. I recently looked up the top names in the UK and it is number 19 on the list. Is it common for little kids nowadays? I remember the name blowing up in the late 90s/2000s the last time it was number one was in 2003 and 2004 but i'm curious if anyone knows any young children with the name, i'd imagine the majority of girls named emily where 13+ now.

It's popular but it is a classic. It will date in the way that Anne and Margaret have dated (or the way Sarah and Laura have dated) rather than in the way, say, Shirley, Tracey and Donna have dated.

There's one In my NCT group but that's the only one I know

The decline in popularity is because off other very similar names being used instead. Emilia, Amelie, Amelia, Emmeline etc. Emily is more classic and nicer IMO.

I dont think it is as such in decline. Its more there is fewer to get the top slots as wider name range. It is a known name I doubt will go out of fashion or be pegged as a fad. If you like it and don't mind knowing.other go with it.

Emily has definitely declined in popularity and usage, from almost 7000 girls named Emily in 1999 to less than 2000 now...!

I agree with this.

I've always liked the name Emily, I'm 26 and knew several at school and my age. However, I don't know any Emily's that are younger now. My partner doesn't like it for a first name due to thinking of all the Emily's we knew at school, but it could be a middle name.

My 11 year old DS has three Emily's in his class! It's a lovely name.
