I would go with just frank.

FreshCop · 15/10/2022 21:04

Frank is much cooler, Francis would make me imagine someone more boring.

Johnnysgirl · 15/10/2022 21:05

I'd always give the option, tbh.

Kaiken · 15/10/2022 21:05

Francis sound very religious

SalviaOfficinalis · 15/10/2022 21:06

I like Frank

PinkSyCo · 15/10/2022 21:07

I don’t like either names quite frankly (tee hee), but if you like both I would probably go for the long version so that your DS will have a choice.

Derrymum123 · 15/10/2022 21:08

Francis is just perfectly lovely. Frank for every day.

ofwarren · 15/10/2022 21:08

I usually prefer the full name but I really don't like Francis. Frank is a much stronger name.

DramaAlpaca · 15/10/2022 21:16

Francis is so much nicer and less harsh than Frank.

SameToo · 15/10/2022 21:23

What about Franklin nn Frank?

XAQ · 15/10/2022 21:34

Francis is an awful name. Love Frank/ franklin

Mouthfulofquiz · 15/10/2022 21:37

Francis isn’t an awful name at all 😂
Francis and Frank are both well established, perfectly decent names. The Francis I know is very funny and a great friend.

37andfree · 16/10/2022 08:07

@SameToo thank you for the suggestion just cannot being myself to like Franklin, it is a bottle of water where I am from so cannot get over that connection.

I knew a Francis who always went as Frank or Frankie.

IHateWasps · 16/10/2022 08:16

Frank is such an ugly and harsh name. Francis is wet and unattractive but slightly more tolerable than Frank so Francis.

Mol1628 · 16/10/2022 08:17

Frank on its own. My grandad was a Frank. Good strong name.

GallopingGreen · 16/10/2022 08:27

Family name here for a few generations - Francis on birth certificate but only ever known as Frank. Great name - and I love Francis.

FennelAndOnions · 16/10/2022 10:15

Frank, if I had to choose. Francis is so drab and wet.

Mumsnut · 16/10/2022 10:31

Frankenstein in full

I dare you …

RuthW · 16/10/2022 10:32

Francis without a doubt

S25 · 16/10/2022 10:52

Frank. Nice strong name. I do like Francis aswell but it is a totally different feeling to Frank.

youcantry · 16/10/2022 11:14

I like both. I know three men named officially Francis; one is known as Frank, one goes by Fran (pronounced Frarn) and one as Frankie

SummaLuvin · 16/10/2022 11:50

I love Frank! For me it has an understate elegance in it's simplicity, that is taken away in the longer versions of Francis and Franklin. I can't stand Franklin so that is a straight no. While Francis is fine, I find it a little drab so wouldn't use it personally.

A lot of MN users heavily support using an extended name on birth certificate and then using your preferred diminutive day to day, however, this only works in the parents like the extended version, and the other diminutives that go along with it as their child might switch when they grow upland reject the diminutive the parents initially wanted.

FayCarew · 16/10/2022 13:31

Francis, but I prefer it as a middle name because I'm not keen on Frank. Dislike Franklin.
