Hello again mumsnetters!!

i don’t know if you remember but I made a thread a while ago about expecting baby number 3 and now we are expecting baby number 4

We already have Nirvana (Varnie), Jude and Nicks and we are looking for names to go with the music theme
we got a lot of hate last time for the theme of our children’s names but overall it was helpful on deciding baby nicks’ name (we also don’t know the gender yet!)

names we are considering this time:
Arabella (Ari) Arctic monkey association but also love the nickname Ari
Floyd
Florence (flossy) Florence and the machines and also a family name on my side of the family
Drummer (may be the top contender for a boy)
Lyric
Smiths
Leon
Oasis

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

James

James is always the perfect name. Oh sit down, oh sit down. Sit down next to me...

Redqueenheart · 16/10/2022 09:30

This is a joke, right?

JuneOsborne · 16/10/2022 10:30

Carly and Joni and great suggestions! I can't think of that last time I heard of Carly. I knew a Carla, but Carly is lovely!

Also Rudy.

Boys seem harder in your theme without resorting to cliches.

7catsisnotenough · 16/10/2022 10:49

We've got a Lunie, a Lulu, a Dusty, an Eartha, an Etta and a Georgie 👍🏼 All music inspired (bar Lunie)...but they're cats 🤣

You choose to your taste OP, there are plenty of "ordinary" names that people dislike so don't worry about everyone else!

Tbh I'd personally try to choose something that could have an ordinary type nickname in case the child wanted to blend in rather than be out there 💐

DemBonesDemBones · 16/10/2022 10:54

I remember your last thread and I loved all your names. You can't go wrong with any of your options, you win the prize for naming babies!

DemBonesDemBones · 16/10/2022 11:02

@RandomMusings7 I feel the same for poor sods lumbered with Lily, Imogen, Evie, Jacob, Harry, Oscar etc. Like their parents just picked from a pre approved list (the top 10 list!) Not very special 🤷‍♀️

Scoleah · 16/10/2022 11:03

Travis?

I would choose Leon or Florence because they’re real names that won’t burden the child evermore.

Please don’t choose drummer or Oasis. They aren’t music inspired names, they’re just words associated with music. Like saying ‘oh we love floral themed names, so this is baby Garden-Centre and his twin sister Flowerpot.’

This. Though Garden-Centre and Flowerpot literally made me howl 🤣

Kiwimommyinlondon · 16/10/2022 11:05

Keith
Graham
Bernard
Howard
Frank

BenCoopersSupportWren · 16/10/2022 11:11

Bonzo, with Dog for a middle name. Unless your surname is Doodah in which case perhaps not.

MintyGreenDreams · 16/10/2022 11:13

Lyric

Dreamingcats · 16/10/2022 11:14

I actually quite like Oasis! I hate Smiths. I like the others but Floyd is the one that immediately seemed to fit your theme.

Jovi?!

clpsmum · 16/10/2022 11:19

Joy (Joy Division)
Iggy (Iggy Pop) - fun fact - Noel Fielding named his daughter Iggy

I was also thinking Belle & Sebastian but they don’t really go with the others

I remember your other thread, I love these types of names they’re my guilty pleasure!

Whiskeypowers · 16/10/2022 11:29

Not sure if you have had these as I cannot face seven pages but how about

girls

Debbie (Harry)
Viv (Albertine)
Joan (Jett)
Polly Jean (PJ Harvey)
Siouxsie (and the Banshees)

boys

Zappa (Frank)
Layne (Staley )
Weiland (Scott reversed)
Vedder (Eddie as above)
Stone (Gossard)
Melvin (KC Favourite band so fitting)

gogohmm · 16/10/2022 11:43

Leon and Florence are okay, actually love Florence.

How about Roxanne? Eleanor (from Eleanor rigby)? James after the band very safe choice for a boy or Mickey from the 80's classic!

Poor kid being called Nicks, why not just Nick? Lots of people named Nick in music.

gogohmm · 16/10/2022 11:48

But personally I would go super classy - Mimi for a girl (La Boheme) or Giovanni of opera fame. Carmen would work too.

Cats are carmen and mimi

Doveyouknow · 16/10/2022 11:51

Crikey, nirvana is quite a name to live up to for anyone! Florence is lovely. Floyd makes me think of the chef but that's probably my age. Leon is lovely

Zoomer122 · 16/10/2022 11:54

DP is really liking both Bowie and Prince right now and they are the top on his list

I have always loved the name Kingsley but we are not sure it goes with our other kids names

OP posts:
Maireas · 16/10/2022 11:56

Kingsley is a great name.

urbanbuddha · 16/10/2022 12:36

Prince is just wrong. Unless you're American it's not a name it's a title, and it doesn't go with your other names.
Kingsley is great.

Happenchance · 16/10/2022 13:45

I'm far too invested in this Fred now.
Damon (Albarn)

I would go Joni - as in Mitchell.

Yes! Lovely name.

AutumnCrow · 16/10/2022 14:35

Bean

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/10/2022 15:44

Blur- especially if you live in a very big house in the country.
