Hello again mumsnetters!!

i don’t know if you remember but I made a thread a while ago about expecting baby number 3 and now we are expecting baby number 4

We already have Nirvana (Varnie), Jude and Nicks and we are looking for names to go with the music theme
we got a lot of hate last time for the theme of our children’s names but overall it was helpful on deciding baby nicks’ name (we also don’t know the gender yet!)

names we are considering this time:
Arabella (Ari) Arctic monkey association but also love the nickname Ari
Floyd
Florence (flossy) Florence and the machines and also a family name on my side of the family
Drummer (may be the top contender for a boy)
Lyric
Smiths
Leon
Oasis

Nirvana and Nickelback has a certain something.

Alice.
(In chains?)
(Who the fuck is?)

Happenchance · 15/10/2022 22:35

I was also going to suggest Jagger. I've not read the full thread, so apologies if these have also already been suggested.
Cobain
Zephyr
Deacon
Bowie
Sue
Garth (as in Garfunkel)
Wilson

Adia
Zephyr
Zepharina nn Zephyr
Elise
Valorie
Keeley (if Lorraine is gone 😁 and in homage to Reverend and the Makers)

Strokethefurrywall · 15/10/2022 22:36

See none of these names are weird to me, but maybe that's just where I live (non-UK).

I know a 3 year old Hendrix and DS2 is friends with a Jagger. There's also a Bowie 🤷🏽‍♀️

I love unusual names, beats another Oliver or Harry. Perfectly fine names but ubiquitous. I like a variety!

Shortskirtlongjacket · 15/10/2022 22:37

ZZ Noddy Wizard 🤣🤣🤣🤣

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 15/10/2022 22:40

Not keen on Drummer. What about Fender? Or Marshall? I like Cash but you'd need to be a fan of Johnny Cash I suppose. I like Axl too.

AutumnCrow · 15/10/2022 22:43

Maxwell (and his silver hammer. Rose and Valerie were screaming from the gallery.)
Eleanor (and her face she keeps in a jar by the door)
McKenzie (Father, priest, buried Eleanor Rigby, wiped the dirt from his hands)

But I think the name you want is ...

Jericho

Floyd or Florence

please don’t call your child Smiths. Smith at a push, but not Smiths.

I love The Smiths (see username) but I agree, don't do this.

What about Ringo?

Whereisthehugeteddybear · 15/10/2022 22:44

Bo - Selecta?

timoteigirl · 15/10/2022 22:44

Instead of Ringo, Starr sounds a cooler name....

Strokethefurrywall · 15/10/2022 22:45

That reminds me, I also know a Marshall, 2 x Mavericks and 2 x Axls.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 15/10/2022 22:45

Meatloaf!!!

PrioritiseCalm · 15/10/2022 22:46

Dr.Dre?

theworldhas · 15/10/2022 22:47

Happenchance · 15/10/2022 22:48

Can I throw in Bowie and Ziggy as suggestions? Wasn't brave enough to use them myself Grin

AutumnCrow · 15/10/2022 22:48

I'm serious about Jericho. When you introduce your DC you can say, here's Nirvana (Varnie), and Jude, and Nicks, and Then Jericho.

Kanaloa · 15/10/2022 21:01

I would choose Leon or Florence because they’re real names that won’t burden the child evermore.

Please don’t choose drummer or Oasis. They aren’t music inspired names, they’re just words associated with music. Like saying ‘oh we love floral themed names, so this is baby Garden-Centre and his twin sister Flowerpot.’

This made me snort, it's so true. Any child called Oasis will be straight down the deed poll office the second they turn 18 Grin

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 15/10/2022 22:49

No need for all the hand wringing and 'poor child' comments. My children have very plain names but some people want to be a bit out there. So what? Unusual names are the getting to be the norm now. Nobody will bat an eyelid.

Or go the whole hog with Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet and Diva Muffin.

timoteigirl · 15/10/2022 22:59

@Dreikanter you forgot Cher's child Chastity

Yumsnet · 15/10/2022 23:02

As in Morrissey. Not many baby Steves around these days.
