Esmé Delphine - thoughts?

Hi,

My little one is due in December and she’ll be the youngest of 4 girls. We’re a bit stuck on a name, but I’m loving Esmé at the moment. I have French ancestry so it fits.

My nanna passed away this year and I’d love to honour her by using her name as the middle name, hence Delphine.

Other first names we like are:

Romy
Maeve
Alba

But particular drawn to Esmé. Honest opinions please and open to ideas :-)

I quite like Esme, but there are millions of them, Romy and Maeve have also suddenly shot up, so I’d go for Alba.. although I do prefer Aphra myself, Aster is also quite nice. Delphine works fine in the middle.

DramaAlpaca · 01/10/2022 23:59

Esme isn't my cup of tea really, but I adore Delphine. I like Romy and Maeve, but hate Alba.

I do think the two names go beautifully together - Esme Delphine is very pretty.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 02/10/2022 00:04

Aww, what a nice name your nanna had. You don't meet many Delphines.

I like all your other names aside from Alba.

YorkshireIndie · 02/10/2022 00:06

It is a lovely name. Not a fan of Romy

NoYouSirName · 02/10/2022 00:08

I love Esmé Delphine

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 02/10/2022 00:08

Beautiful

shoplifteroftheworld · 02/10/2022 00:09

Delphine is a beautiful name but all I can think of now is the porn star/YouTube girl Belle Delphine 😩 She's ruined it for me.

Rapidtango · 02/10/2022 00:14

Delphine Esme is really lovely and Delphine as a first name is a bit more unusual than Esme.
Romy Delphine is also beautiful. As is Delphine Romy.

urbanbuddha · 02/10/2022 00:25

I love Esmé Delphine - it's gorgeous.

Lullabies2Paralyze · 02/10/2022 12:08

@shoplifteroftheworld SAME! Totally ruined for me now! Such a shame as it’s a lovely name (I think the person who voiced daphne in the Scooby doo cartoons was called delphine)

caitlinrose · 02/10/2022 12:41

It's cute!

If you want the correct French feminine form it should be Esmée.

Delphine is dated in France (to the 70s) but it wouldn't bother me, it's a lovely name.

Romy - cute
Maeve - seems to be popular now and I am a bit tired of it
Alba - sorry, but I think of the political party

Romy or Esmée then Maeve then Alba.

happylittlesoul · 02/10/2022 22:37

Lovely variations, I like Aphra a lot!

Thank you @DramaAlpaca I like them as a collective much more than stand alone names too :-)

Thank you for the input @YorkshireIndie @NoYouSirName @GobbolinoTheWitchesCat @Rapidtango @urbanbuddha - I’m really glad you like it! :-)

happylittlesoul · 02/10/2022 22:45

@caitlinrose yes! We have seen the more feminine spelling with the ée and we will likely go with this one - I think in the UK both spellings are used for girls.

l don’t mind that either! I’ve always adored nanna’s name :-) thank you for your thoughts

Iona Delphine
Iris Delphine - double floral name but goes together
June Delphine
Erica Delphine
Evalina Delphine
Rose Delphine
Eva Delphine
Anna Delphine

I think Delphine suits a shorter first name to balance it out.

happylittlesoul · 02/10/2022 22:48

@shoplifteroftheworld @Lullabies2Paralyze oh no! Haha 🙈 I would hope that by the time she’s bigger, that association doesn’t exist anymore. I’ve not heard of Belle Delphine, I would assume it’s a stage name though.

EstellaRijnveld · 02/10/2022 22:48

Posted too soon. Esme Delphine goes well together.

happylittlesoul · 02/10/2022 23:13

@EstellaRijnveld Iris is stunning ! Thank you for the suggestions too, they’re lovely.

I'm not fond of Esme but I like your nana's Delphine for a middle.

I have French ancestry and like Zelie, but not sure that goes with Delphine.

FeralWitch · 03/10/2022 02:46

Why not have Delphine as a first name? You can call her Delphi for short, which I think is gorgeous.

Not that I don’t like Esme - but reading your posts, you seem to really love Delphine!

StupidSmallFruit · 03/10/2022 02:49

If you have French connections, I’m hoping you won’t pronounce the awful Es-mee way!

HappyStripper · 03/10/2022 04:08

Sorry to say, but again all I can think of is Belle Delphine. She's basically the most famous internet pornstar around. Don't want to completely dissuade you but it should be a big consideration as there will be references to it.

@EstellaRijnveld Iris is stunning ! Thank you for the suggestions too, they’re lovely.

You are welcome! Presumably, your dd will be known by her first name only & Delphine for the bc only? Or will you be calling her both names in unison?
