We cannot agree now and just can’t find that right name so we have scrapped our list. I still want to hang in to Xanthe and Elowen but suddenly I’m thinking Elodie, am I mad?

Elodie is really pretty - Obviously a similar sound to Melody and so very pretty and lyrical sounding.

I also love Xanthe though.

Have you any ideas on middle names (if you’re having any) to see what might flow well together?

S25 · 01/10/2022 10:16

My bad, just seen the previous where you said Elise is likely the middle name.

Elodie Elise is quite a mouthful but at the same time really really pretty!!

KangarooKenny · 01/10/2022 10:17

Elodie is nicer than the other two.

KirstenBlest · 01/10/2022 10:19

It's quite popular, and will be another Ellie, doesn't go with the middle name.
Elodie Fleur?

It's not huguely popular according to darkgreener but those figures are for 2020

quietnightmare · 01/10/2022 10:20

Elodie was on my list. It is a beautiful name and Elle or Ellie and nn is sweet

Crikeyalmighty · 01/10/2022 10:22

Lovely name.

toastofthetown · 01/10/2022 10:47

Elodie is a crashingly dull name to me. Nothing wrong it it, but all the building blocks are elements of other very popular names which makes it sound pretty indistinct. And yet another El- name. It's a very safe choice, but not an interesting one. Xanthe is far better to me: unusual, while being familiar and classic and not bizarre.

KirstenBlest · 01/10/2022 10:58

@toastofthetown , that's my thoughts on Elodie too. It's quite nice but a bit middle aged in France

DurdleSnore · 01/10/2022 12:06

Love Elodie but it is growing in popularity if it bothers you. I know a couple who are toddler age. Xanthe is a good choice too and I always imagine how cool it would be to have an ‘X’ initial.

CocoPocoLoco · 01/10/2022 12:10

What about Violet Elise?

SkyeBlue28 · 01/10/2022 19:44

Elodie is a lovely name

itsgettingweird · 01/10/2022 19:54

Elodie is a beautiful name.

I also love Eloise.

It has such a good array of middle names that go with it from the classic like Rose and Elizabeth to different names such as sapphire and pearl.

Elodie Rose
Elodie Elizabeth
Elodie Jane
Elodie Anne
Elodie Pearl
Elodie Sapphire
Elodie Frances

Is absolutely go for it. Also because it's not really got a typical nn it will be shortened too.

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/10/2022 19:54

I much prefer Xanthe, it has sass and character. Elodie just feels a bit meh, it'll do. Sorry.

Melody is really pretty though and seems to have more to it (to me anyway)

Ihavehadenoughalready · 01/10/2022 19:54

I prefer Melodie. I knew a Melodie.

Littlebluedinosaur · 01/10/2022 19:56

love elodie

Lovemylittlebear · 01/10/2022 19:57

Love it x

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/10/2022 20:01

How about Ianthe ?

Elodie is ok but there are so many El names, she’ll end up Ellie. It also reminds me slightly of odour.. much prefer Elowen, if you are going El, it’s also less twee than Elodie

Patty101 · 01/10/2022 20:02

I think Elodie is a beautiful name.

BobbysGirly · 01/10/2022 20:03

Every other little girl born, here, is called Elodie. It’s become too popular now. My DGS has just started school and has 4 Elodie’s in his class.

What about Eloise or Elise?

GlassDeli · 01/10/2022 20:50

I don't like Eloise as much as the other two.

Lucasboo · 01/10/2022 22:07

Love these ideas

I thought of Ianthe but a lot of people pronounce it Eye-anthe and that annoys me as it’s not right.

I'm an Elodie shortened to Ellie so I say go for it 😉

Leemoe · 01/10/2022 23:49

Its pretty ubiquitous in certain circles now unfortunately

How about Sylvie?

babyjellyfish · 03/10/2022 10:38

Elodie is one of those French names which is suddenly popular in the UK but massively out of fashion in France. The average Elodie in France is about 35.

The closest equivalent in French I can think of is Jade, which is currently the no.1 name in France, but peaked over 30 years ago in the UK and is now very rare.

This might not bother you at all, I just think it's an interesting phenomenon. Isabelle, Florence, Amelie and Elodie are all names I think of as French names, all very popular in the UK but now very rare in France.

Otherwise, if you want Elise as a middle name, I wouldn't pick something beginning with El- as a first name.
