Sky and Skye

I would like to hear your thoughts on Sky and Skye.

Which spelling do you prefer?

Do you prefer it on a boy or girl? Does the spelling make a difference?

My husband likes Skyler and Skylar for girls. I can't really get on board with these two as they are too trendy for me personally but I do like just Skye for a girl and Sky for a boy (the former might end up on my list as for the latter I'm not quite sure).

What are your thoughts on:

Skye for a girl

Sky for a boy

Or maybe Sky for a girl (for some reason I can't imagine Skye on a boy as much).

I do like the simplicity of Sky but am sort of wondering whether Skye looks more grown up and professional?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Neither looks grown up or professional.
Sky is nicer. With an "e" is affected. Or lipstick on a pig.

wannarunfromitall · 27/09/2022 12:39

I prefer Skye. As in the island. For a girl. I don't mind Sky for a bit but it is a bit more random.

DuchessOfSausage · 27/09/2022 13:00

Skye, like the island, is ok for a girl or a female dog. Sky is not ok.
Skyler, Skyla and Skylar look like simpler spellings of Schuyler, and are awful

GiantTortoise · 27/09/2022 13:01

I think of Sky / Skye as a girls name, however it's spelt. I like it.

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 27/09/2022 13:03

Sky is TV. Skye is a name.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 27/09/2022 13:06

Skye. Like the island.

YourWinter · 27/09/2022 13:11

Skye is ok for a girl, neither for a boy. Lovely and very popular name for pets.

wannarunfromitall · 27/09/2022 13:12

Oh Sky was the fiancé's name of thingy in Mamma Mia. And he was a dick. So...

Sunshineismyfriend · 27/09/2022 13:14

Skye is nicer and only for a girl. I wouldn’t call a boy Sky. If you like the sound maybe Kai for a boy, if that’s your thing.

WhatIsThisPlease · 27/09/2022 13:14

Skye for a girl, neither for a boy.

Unicorn717 · 27/09/2022 13:16

Skye but wouldn't give either to a boy. I think it's too much of a 'pretty' name.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 27/09/2022 13:18

I actually know two Scottish boys (well, one is now a man) called Skye.

eleanorsmellstrop · 27/09/2022 14:31

I like Skye for a girl. Neither for a boy.

mathanxiety · 27/09/2022 14:59

Talk your H down from Skyler/ Skylar. You'll be fine with literally anything else.

kellj · 27/09/2022 15:01

Both are lovely. Go with your heart.

BruceWaynettaSlob · 27/09/2022 15:10

I like Skye for a girl but it's quite popular/trendy. I'm sure it's in the top 20 in Scotland. I don't like it as a boy's name.

Someone will be along to sneer at you for liking chavvy names in a minute.

Is Skye seen as such a name? I always thought it had a sweet, nature-like image. What exactly makes it so?

Just curious and not just directed at you only but as a general question as it just never occured to me. Would be grateful if someone could explain. Thank you.

I definitely wouldn't want her to have problems with her name but always saw Skye as a pretty normal choice as it doesn't seem to be that uncommon.

I like Sky. Prefer it for a boy, but works for both.

Skye is a Scottish island, isn’t it?

urbanbuddha · 27/09/2022 15:38

Skye's lovely for a girl. Not keen on it for a boy as it seems like a girl's name to me.
I like River for a boy.

Soproudoflionesses · 27/09/2022 15:49

Not a fan of the name Skye ar Sky at all.
Don't like these nature names at all.

Sorry op, I'm not sure why it's disliked. It's been called "down-market" on here.
I was just letting you know that there could be potential problems in future if your dd encounters snobs.

Audienceofone · 27/09/2022 15:58

Wow some people really getting worked up over some names here 😳😂

personally I prefer the spelling of Skye (for either gender because who cares about gendering names really) and skylar is nice also. If you like the name then go for it imo

Titsflyingsouth · 27/09/2022 17:13

Not really my cup of tea to be honest, but I'd probably go with Skye (it reminds me of the Isle of Skye, which is absolutely beautiful and a very nice association....)

TwoWeeksislong · 27/09/2022 17:15

I like Skye.

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 27/09/2022 17:28

I'm taken back to Paw Patrol with Skye!

I don't know any human ones personally.

I'm not a fan of Skylar though. Not sure why.
