Sky and Skye

I would like to hear your thoughts on Sky and Skye.

Which spelling do you prefer?

Do you prefer it on a boy or girl? Does the spelling make a difference?

My husband likes Skyler and Skylar for girls. I can't really get on board with these two as they are too trendy for me personally but I do like just Skye for a girl and Sky for a boy (the former might end up on my list as for the latter I'm not quite sure).

What are your thoughts on:

Skye for a girl

Sky for a boy

Or maybe Sky for a girl (for some reason I can't imagine Skye on a boy as much).

I do like the simplicity of Sky but am sort of wondering whether Skye looks more grown up and professional?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I've only ever seen skye or skylar and girls, didn't know it was a boys name?

Sky is TV. Skye is a name.

This

Skye (like the island) for a girl I quite like. Less keen on it as a boys name.

I really intensely dislike Skylar though not for any rational reason, just not my cup of tea.

useitorlose · 12/09/2023 19:54

Can't hear it without thinking I've misheard Skype.

StillWantingADog · 12/09/2023 19:55

Skye.
as in the gorgeous island
Better for a girl but wouldn’t rule it out for a boy

DuchessOfSausage · 12/09/2023 19:57

Skye for a female dog or girl
Isla is much nicer than Skyla. How about Isla Skye?

Sleepnplay · 12/09/2023 20:53

I like Skye, for a girl, not keen on either for a boy. Really dislike Skylar, I don't think its a nice sound at all.

MadeFrom100percentPears · 12/09/2023 21:14

How about Scarlet? I've known a few who were lovely so have positive feelings about that name.

If Skye is nailed on for you then I agree with the consensus of the Skye spelling for a girl but not keen for a boy.

Alternative boy names could be Loughlinn, Caleb or Hamish (I love Hamish but H wasn't keen).

FawltyTower · 12/09/2023 21:17

How about Isla Skye?

😂😂

Howtosolveit · 12/09/2023 21:19

I like Skye for a girl, but would be careful with all variations of Sky for the Paw Patrol generation Grin

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/09/2023 21:55

I don’t like it but it’s a million times better than Skylar

I’ve only heard it for girls

Skye seems the usual spelling, so you might as well do that

Daisybuttercup12345 · 12/09/2023 22:08

Please don't for a boy.
Skye for a girl.

Theoldwoman · 12/09/2023 22:18

Not a fan, there are so many nicer names.

Definitely a girls name to me.

Skye.

Skylar/Skyler is awful.

user1492757084 · 13/09/2023 06:26

Skye is the most gorgeous Island and I love the name for a girl. Skye is the most usual and classic spelling.

Skylah, I think, is an American name from the 1970s.

Guys this thread is a year old, I’m sure she’s had and named her baby by now.

Oops lol 😂

DuchessOfSausage · 13/09/2023 10:24

@PickledScrump , maybe OP was asking because they were at the time considering name for an as yet unconceived child. Skye and Skyla seem a bit faddy to me and a bit dated.

Coffeeandcakemum · 13/09/2023 10:29

I prefer Skye 😊

PickledScrump · 13/09/2023 12:34

@DuchessOfSausage doesnt change this post is a year old and the OP hasn’t replied on it for a long time. It’s a zombie thread.
