Quite nice. It’s risen quite sharply in popularity recently and I think it might seems like a 2020s name in the future. Obvious diminutives are Thea and Dora. I prefer Dorothea to Theodora.

LostInMeadows · 27/09/2022 07:16

Personally think it's awful. Sticking an A on the end of a man's name doesn't make it girly, there's so many nicer actual girls names out there.

HowVeryBizarre · 27/09/2022 07:30

Cute.

KendrickLamaze · 27/09/2022 07:47

I really like it. There's a Netflix series with a character named Theo/Theodora. I think it's called haunting of hill house or similar. I would 100% use it but with Theo not Thea as shorthand.

Isn't it the name of the witch in wizard of oz? It may lead to a small amount of playground teasing there but what name doesn't.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/09/2022 07:51

I like it

There are a quite a few though, mostly called Thea or Teddie day to day and when you add them to the huge number of boys called Theo/dore and known as Theo or Teddy, and all the girls just called Thea.. it’s an army

So for that reason I wouldn’t

GeorgiaGirl52 · 27/09/2022 07:55

Lovely. Classic but not old-fashioned. I would use Dora as a nickname not Thea.

jackstini · 27/09/2022 07:59

Lovely, in long and short forms

DuchessOfSausage · 27/09/2022 09:20

Awful. Theo/Theodore is too popular. Thea is nothingy and lispy, and if Theodore wasn't bad enough, Theodora is too long and clumsy sounding. Dorothy is so much nicer and Dot is really cute

It’s an ancient name. You’re making it sound like it’s just made up 😂

I like it! beautiful name and timeless.

Petal7 · 27/09/2022 10:19

Love it. Classic and great nicknames.

I know it's an old name but it still sounds made up and manly.

Penguinsaregreat · 27/09/2022 10:25

Lovely name.

Sprig1 · 27/09/2022 10:25

Lovely.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 27/09/2022 10:27

I don’t like it. Sounds clunky and makes me picture some ferocious Victorian headmistress.

It’s on trend though I suppose.

RuthW · 27/09/2022 11:28

It's lovely.

What a bizarre comment. I think it’s the epitome of a feminine name!

It’s also the name of many extraordinary people throughout history - saints and royalty and literary characters. Only an extremely ignorant person would think it was made up and to be honest there’s not much I can do about that 😂

Ferocious Victorian headmistress sounds fab to me! 😁

Does kinda make me think of the kids TV show Wizardora Grin still like it though!

VeryQuaintIrene · 27/09/2022 13:40

It's lovely. Ignore the haters.

eleanorsmellstrop · 27/09/2022 13:42

Thank you for all the feedback everyone! I am happy to see so many people like it. And for once, the reasons people have given for liking it really don’t bother me/haven’t put me off the name at all - which I think has made me realise just how much I love it! As usually I’m so easily put off names - usually just one negative comment will ruin a name for me (I know, I know. Pathetic.) But this time I still love it! So even those of you who don’t like it have helped me to realise how much I love it , thank you!

So ignoring the great Byzantine empress and several saints of the early church, then?

Marcipex · 27/09/2022 13:45

It’s a bit fluffy and flabby.
And so many Theos pronounced Feo.

Dorothea is a bit jollier.

KatRee · 27/09/2022 13:59

Beautiful and lends itself to some lovely nicknames

Never said it was made up so maybe learn to read. If you can't handle peoples opinions then don't ask for them. I belive the name is awful and I'm entitled to think that, doesn't make me ignorant. Maybe stop worrying about the horrible name you're giving your child and work on the horrible attitude of the mother 😃
