Actually … Thea … the more I say it and see it on this thread, the more I like it! We had planned a different nickname but now you mention it maybe we WILL use Thea. It’s very beautiful. We will see what she looks like when she arrives! You can’t choose nicknames, and my other children’s go by their full names or nicknames which have absolutely nothing to do with their first name that happened naturally, so maybe that will happen with Theodora too. Who knows? 😄

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and comments! This thread has made me realise that Theodora is definitely the name for us, after much searching 🥰🥰🥰 So happy!

Leaving the thread now as it has served it’s purpose so just wanted to say a big thank you!

I love it. I would love to name my daughter Theodora but wouldn't be able to as my cousin called his son Theo!

I actually entirely know what you mean and agree. I was thinking about this today actually, so it’s funny that you posted this, such a coincidence!

To be honest, I did an ‘advanced search’ on a poster on this thread who hated the name Theodora and was rude about it to see whether I actually valued her opinion.

Turns out she had recently posted a thread, and when I saw the names that she described as lovely, I realised that her taste in names was ENTIRELY different to mine - her names were all a bit… well, to put it nicely I’d say a bit modern and overdone and nothing-ey. Things like ‘Dakota’ and ‘Nova’ which I just dislike and I know that none of my friends and family (the people whose opinions I care about when naming my baby) would like these names either.

So honestly based on this I just disregarded her opinion because she’s clearly just got a really different taste to me and so her opinion isn’t very helpful.

On the other hand, if the poster who hated Theodora had said they’d liked other names that I’m fond of - classic names, or names with a strong history, like you said - then I’d have maybe thought twice about the name as I’d probably have valued their opinion more as it would make me think that we perhaps had more in common her her opinion might reflect my friend’s and family’s.

As it stands, when I saw her name list I thought I was quite glad she didn’t like Theodora because the names on her list were definitely not the vibe I was going for and so it might have put me off using it 😳

It sounds awful and snobby now I write it down but I don’t mean it to. I suppose what I’m trying to say is just that I agree with you. There are people who we think we have something in common with and so we value their opinion, and there are other people who just have nothing in common with us at all/like stuff we really dislike, and so we naturally sort of shrug off their opinion.

To be honest you do sound awful and snobby and your cat fight with the poster who happened to not like the name for whatever reason was cringe worthy.

Don't like it.
What about thea?

It's pretty but I find it a bit bland.

I know lots of little boys called Theo and Theodore in the UK and Theodora seems to be rising as well.

I also dislike all of the nicknames I can think of: Thea, Dora, Dori, Teddy and Theo (I only like the two last ones on boys).

I know a lovely little girl called Theodora who gets called Theo as well as a young teen called Theodora "Teddy" who is lovely as well who made me like the name but I still can't love it.

I wouldn't find it very exciting to meet yet another Theo or Teddy or person with a Theo-name, to be honest.

It's sort of like with Alex-names. Some of them are lovely and underused yet I still can't really get excited when I meet an Alexia or Alexandria because I know so many Alexanders and Alexandras and usually everyone is just Alex.

If you love it use it. It's a classic and you can't go wrong with it. All the best wishes!
