Baby names

Octavia or Cleo??

Ok... so I know both are actually types of car! But putting that to one side for a moment(!) we're expecting DD2 any day now and we've finally narrowed down her name to...

Cleo Olivia
Or
Octavia Rose

Dd1's name is Romilly.

What do you think we should go for?

Any views welcome, good or bad x

I did immediately think cars!

I prefer cleo olivia, make sure it doesn't spell anything with your surname (cow)

Flora4 · 25/09/2022 23:29

Second vote for Cleo! I love that name.

pitterypattery00 · 25/09/2022 23:30

Nice names and both work with Romilly. I prefer Cleo because I like shorter names in general and Octavia is a bit too 'posh' for me. If you choose Octavia, how about Cleo as the middle name? More interesting than Rose (I love Rose as a first name, but it just seems like a filler as a middle name).

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/09/2022 23:44

Cleo Octavia

I’d check how popular Cleo is getting on dark greener though, if it’s really shifting up go for Octavia

DramaAlpaca · 25/09/2022 23:51

Cleo! Love it.

I like Octavia, but prefer the short snappiness of Cleo.

Kite22 · 25/09/2022 23:53

I mean, personally, I really don't like Octavia, so, out of the 2 would say Cleo, but if you like Romilly, then I'd say Octavia is in a much more similar vein.

Littlebluedinosaur · 25/09/2022 23:55

I thought this was about choosing a car….

Cleo but only marginally.

zukiecat · 26/09/2022 00:06

Octavia Rose.

It's a beautiful name, not keen on Cleo at all.

Dinoteeth · 26/09/2022 00:13

Neither what about Olivia Rose?

I once visited a multiple storey council block called Octavia and Cleo is a small car.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 26/09/2022 02:53

Cleo is a pretty name but not too fussy . Octavia makes me think of one of Jacob Rees Mog’s children.

Agreed. Also, was I crazy to always assume that Cleo was short for Cleopatra? I hadn’t realized it was a name on its own!

RuthW · 26/09/2022 03:26

Both lovely. Possibly prefer Octavia.

autumnvibez · 26/09/2022 03:41

Combine Cleo and Octavia. Both lovely.

Olivia and Rose are both incredibly common names and terribly boring as middle names, especially Rose which is the Louise/Jane of the moment. Lost count of the number of baby girls with middle name rose

urbanbuddha · 26/09/2022 03:42

Exactly this.

46mumof6 · 26/09/2022 04:45

Cleo beautiful name

mathanxiety · 26/09/2022 05:17

Cleo, hands down.

Goes so well with Romilly, echoing the O and L sounds but distinct all the same.

Octavia is a really fussy name imo.

GGGD · 26/09/2022 05:19

Of the two, Cleo.
Claudia seems similar and, as far as I know, isn’t the name of a car. Would you consider this? We have a family friend with this name - she’s full of fun and life.

Sestriere · 26/09/2022 05:21

I love Octavia, even though it’s a bit Jilly Cooper.

i know a one eyed cat called Cleo so I can’t see anything else when I hear that name.

loopsaloo · 26/09/2022 06:02

I have a Cleo
She loves her name

outtheshowernow · 26/09/2022 06:33

You know they sound like cara but you are still going for theM ? Why they are awful

UseOfWeapons · 26/09/2022 07:04

Cleo Olivia.
Octavia is awful.

monkeyupsidedown · 26/09/2022 07:10

Cars? I thought Roman empire....

romdog · 26/09/2022 09:19

Thanks everyone for your comments! Some of them did make me smile.
I was keen to avoid combining Cleo and Octavia due to the car connotations! Also thought a more "boring" middle name would balance out the "out there" first name. Definitely given me food for thought x

Octavia makes me think of one of Jacob Rees Mog’s children.

and if that isn't enough to put anyone off a name, I'm not sure what is.... Grin

Violet1988 · 26/09/2022 13:38

Cleo definitely!
