some great nicknames

Moo
moonie
moo moo

Discovereads · 22/09/2022 23:38

I quite like Selene (Ancient Greek moon goddess)

Id worry if you called a girl Moon, it would lead to rude jokes about her moon (bum) and asking “give us a moon, Moon” and so on.

CambsAlways · 22/09/2022 23:40

Just no

DelurkingAJ · 22/09/2022 23:42

If you want an unusual name in your family then I suggest changing your own…

Lunabun · 22/09/2022 23:43

I think it could potentially work as a middle name but not as a first name, personally

Cherrysherbet · 22/09/2022 23:43

Ooh I like that.

Kite22 · 22/09/2022 23:43

No

SleepingStandingUp · 22/09/2022 23:46

Selene or Luna, yes.
Moon, no.
Signed, your unborn daughter

Indiana2021 · 22/09/2022 23:47

Please don't. If she has a long thin face people will think of a crescent moon and she'll be moon face at school.
If she has a round face she'll also be moon face.
Why do people do this to kids? Don't saddle a poor kid with a daft name to meet your need to be different.

WhackingPhoenix · 22/09/2022 23:48

Luna
Selene/a
Callista
Elara
Portia
Creasida
Pandora

All names of actual moons, or associated with moons. But not Moon😅

Miriam101 · 22/09/2022 23:48

Makes me think of a bare bottom OP. Sorry!

WhackingPhoenix · 22/09/2022 23:49

Obviously that was meant to say Cressida, but my phone had other plans!

JacquelineCarlyle · 22/09/2022 23:50

Awful.

Luna is lovely, why not something like that?

MissBattleaxe · 22/09/2022 23:50

No. Moon means showing your bum "we mooned the lorry driver from the school bus."

I like the idea of space themed names though. How about Astra, Luna or Seren? (Welsh for star).

ParkheadParadise · 22/09/2022 23:50

It's a NO from me.

Oh wow there’s a really strong dislike for the name based on the comments! I agree with a lot of the comments on here, I didn’t realise it was that bad. We want a moon-related name but I guess it will have to be something more well-known like Celine / Luna etc. To me the name moon is associated to the beautiful moon, but it’s too risky to go for it & too out there I guess as a name for a child!

greengardens · 22/09/2022 23:53

I had no idea it was related to bare bottoms! I’m horrified & thanks for pointing this out! Moon is definitely off the list! 😖

Thank you for all the moon-related suggestions in some of the comments, I have added these to my list to consider.

Not Moon reasons above or Luna - short for Lunatic.

Celine is nice though.

caringcarer · 22/09/2022 23:54

I just think of moon cups.

Luna
Selene/a
Callista
Elara
Portia
Creasida
Pandora

All names of actual moons, or associated with moons. But not Moon😅

This idea of naming her after other moons is good, adding on
Amalthea
Io
Miranda
Kari
Phoebe
Cressida
Ophelia
Titiania

Crikeyalmighty · 22/09/2022 23:59

@WhackingPhoenix

Pandora is very pretty and nicely upmarket and could be nn as Dora! Haven't heard it used for a while but I like it

Dinoteeth · 23/09/2022 00:00

Not Titania especially if she becomes a bit chubby Titania / Titanic but you also have Tit in there really not good.

ThistleSifter · 23/09/2022 00:01

Diana (moon goddess)
Phoebe and Ophelia are both beautiful names.

ThistleSifter · 23/09/2022 00:03

Except just thought Ophelia could be said “can I have Ophelia arse?” Lol

Still pretty written down though

All good points. Have to consider the worst.
