DD's best friend is called Shirley. She's 6. I secretly think it's horrible.

Or not so secretly I guess .

norkmaiden · 24/01/2008 09:22

Not really, no. Not my place to comment tbh.

We know a little girl called Beau. I don't dislike it but it just strikes me as wrong - beau is a masculine adjective in French, the feminine should be belle.

Sorry Branflake, not nice thread imho.

LucreziaBourgeois · 24/01/2008 09:28

I would imagine tis not good for the soul to secretly hate the names of your DCs friends.

Or, as CSWS has already pointed out, not so secretly, in this instance.

mrsruffallo · 24/01/2008 09:33

I don't pass judgement

tiredemma · 24/01/2008 09:34

Its not something that I have ever given much thought to tbh.

PussinWellies · 24/01/2008 09:38

Well... there are some I find really hard to say. Does that count? Particularly all those Ls -- try calling Olivia, Elizabeth, Isabella and Leila across a playground without getting in a hollible mluddle.

Oliveoil · 24/01/2008 09:39

Nothing wrong with Beau imo

some of my friends have different names that when I first heard I thought hmmmmmmm, but now the name completely matches the little person they are

so no, I do not hate any names

Marne · 24/01/2008 09:40

Not one's that i hate but a few slightly different one's like CoCo and Angel-lee

there are names i think that another name would have suited them better, iyswim? not hate though.

SnappyLaGore · 24/01/2008 09:44

well i'll own up; i have a little cousin whose name i dislike.
obviously i, like branflake, am not going to say anything... but i do think its horrid if im totally honest!

OrmIrian · 24/01/2008 09:48

Oh god....loads. But once you get to know the child it doesn't seem to matter.

stleger · 24/01/2008 10:01

I live in Cork where an odd mix of names is used. There are hard to spell Irish ones (threads on I want to call my baby - how do you spell it and say it?). There are the usual James and Lucy type names. But also a retro lot - so babies are still called Keith, Alison, Gillian, Leonard - 1960's names.

Budcat · 24/01/2008 13:35

Not my place to judge the names of others and 'hate' is a strong word.

ilove8pm · 24/01/2008 20:01

not that come to mind, but there are a couple where I think 'damn wish Id thought of that name first and can i steal it!'

I know a MNer with that name, which I think is a nice name. My oldest friend is also called Shirley.

I hope neither of them are reading this.

I like to live and let live if poss

Desiderata · 24/01/2008 20:36

I've lost count of the number of times people have been rude about my son's name on here.

I generally take it in good heart, because it's nothing, truly nothing in comparison to his surname

Poor little sod.

Maidamess · 24/01/2008 20:37

I have a friend who's daughter's name is the stuff that bees make. And no, its not wax. It makes my toes curl. If she was a Bond Girl it would be great, but 6 year old? Nahhh.
