Meredith or Edith?

Which do you prefer out of Meredith and Edith? I think I'm more swaying towards Edith but the more I see Meredith, the more I like it, and I suppose it has more nickname/shortenings options!

Meredith is the lesser of two evils ...
Sorry 😂

LaTangerina · 17/09/2022 09:23

Not to my taste, I think Edith conjours images of a nursing home still (to me anyway)

JulesCobb · 17/09/2022 09:23

edie is so very popular where i live I would avoid edith. Ive always lived the name Meredith.

Runnerduck34 · 17/09/2022 09:23

I prefer Meredith, it has a softer sound and I think slightly unusual ( at least in my circle) but go with your heart.

JulesCobb · 17/09/2022 09:24

Ive always loved the name Meredith that should have been

groovergirl · 17/09/2022 09:28

Definitely Meredith. It's mellifluous and elegant, and Meri is a sweet nn.

NannyR · 17/09/2022 09:29

I love both names, also love Judith. I would go for Edith, as the correct Welsh pronunciation of Meredith isn't how I would instinctively pronounce it (I think it's more emphasis on the -red in the middle).

jays · 17/09/2022 09:29

Meredith, by a country mile.

BronnauMawrion · 17/09/2022 09:34

I love Edie as a nn, but much prefer Meredith as a "proper" name.
I also know a little Dodie (like Dodie Smith, author of 101 Dalmatians)

MojoJojo71 · 17/09/2022 09:38

Meredith is beautiful, not keen on Edith

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 17/09/2022 09:47

Meredith definitely

Sniffypete · 17/09/2022 09:47

Meredith. I had a teacher called this and she was so glamorous and cool.

Undervaluedandsad · 17/09/2022 09:55

Meredith. I'm not keen on Edith.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 17/09/2022 10:07

Meredith. Don't like Edith at all.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/09/2022 10:07

Meredith - I love Edith too but there are so many of them.

Plus Merry as a short form is lovely, and Edie works too.

Lindy2 · 17/09/2022 10:14

Meredith is pretty and the nickname Merry is a nice one.

Edith just sounds really harsh and ugly to me.

SoupDragon · 17/09/2022 10:14

Another vote for Meredith

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 17/09/2022 10:21

I'll be the lone dissenter - I much prefer Edith as I think it's snappier and fresher-sounding. It's vintage while Meredith feels middle-aged, to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

plinkypots · 17/09/2022 10:24

Edith nn Edie or Didi. Meredith doesn't sound pretty or strong.

SpringIntoChaos · 17/09/2022 10:28

Have you thought of Eadie? Currently have one in my class and I'm loving it 😍

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/09/2022 11:17

I LOVE Edith, and Edie. Fabulous name.

Iguanainanigloo · 17/09/2022 11:18
