looking for a short but girly baby name but can’t find any I love. What are your thoughts on Emmy/Emme?

I’d use Emmeline and NN

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 15/09/2022 19:35

Love it that's what I wanted to call my baby we didn't find out the sex and had a boy so couldn't 🤣

KirstenBlest · 15/09/2022 19:37

Emmy is too close to Ellie and needs to be short for something. Emme doesn't seem like a name, just M. Dee, Kay and Jay are better.

Soulstirring · 15/09/2022 19:38

Not a fan. An adult Emmy isn’t cute but a little one is. Perhaps as a NN

NannyR · 15/09/2022 19:38

I also love Emmeline, with Emmie as a nickname. I'm never quite sure how to pronounce Emme and Emmy reminds me of the TV awards.

The2Omicronnies · 15/09/2022 19:39

I absolutely love it.

BreakfastClub80 · 15/09/2022 19:39

Most Emmy’s I know are actually either Emma, Emilia, or Emily…… and most get shortened to Em. I love the name but would probably stick to a traditional version and shorten it to Emmy.

seasunshine22 · 15/09/2022 19:40

Might sound stupid but how is Emmeline pronounced?

I would use a longer name (Emma / emmeline) and use Emmy as a nickname - then they will have the option of a more ‘grown up’ name when they’re older and wanting to be taken seriously for jobs, etc.

Everylittlethingsgonnabealright · 15/09/2022 19:42

Emmeline = Em-eh-leen

I know a young adult Emmy whose full name is Emelia - love it.

Aria999 · 15/09/2022 19:42

I would say it EM-ell-een

I know a very nice adult Emmie, it really suits her. It's probably short for something though.

mac1974 · 15/09/2022 19:43

I like it but my DD is called Emily which is similar. I absolutely love Emma too (that was my first choice but DH preferred Emily)

NannyR · 15/09/2022 19:44

seasunshine22 · 15/09/2022 19:40

Might sound stupid but how is Emmeline pronounced?

Emm-uh-leen the uh sound is a soft schwa sound.

NuffSaidSam · 15/09/2022 19:45

I really like Emmy (not Emme).

But I would have it as a nickname, not a given name.

I don't like Emmeline.

I'd probably go for Emily.

seasunshine22 · 15/09/2022 19:46

I do love Emilia but worry about it being a bit popular or dated

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 15/09/2022 19:47

The trouble with Emilia is that it sounds like Amelia. It's much nicer though.

Spanielsarepainless · 15/09/2022 19:48

Not good. And what if your short girly turns out to be a tall tomboy (like me!)? Pick a proper name not an abbreviated one. And aren't Emmys some sort of acting award?

seasunshine22 · 15/09/2022 19:50

That would be very unfortunate I really hope not.

OP posts:
FuncaMunca · 15/09/2022 19:50

Emmeline is lovely but in my experience is a bit awkward in the UK because obviously it's a French name so quite uncommon and sounds a lot like Emily when said. Plus will need to be spelled out every time.

Emmy on the other hand is v cute, easy to say and spell. I love it. But yeah everyone will ask what it's short for...

FuncaMunca · 15/09/2022 19:51

What about Annie?

Aria999 · 15/09/2022 20:04

Do you like Emma?

seasunshine22 · 15/09/2022 20:10

No I’m not keen on Emma

OP posts:
ChagSameachDoreen · 15/09/2022 20:14

Love it.

Clairejay34 · 15/09/2022 20:18

Love Emmy/Emmie...not sure about the Emme spelling as I think it would be pronounced wrong. I think its lovely as a full name without being short for anything

EllaPaella · 15/09/2022 20:22

I love Emmie. It was my Great Grandmother's name.
