Laurence or Benjamin?

Babynameangst · 09/09/2022 23:35

I like:
Laurence Jasper

Or

Benjamin Eden / Rory / Skye / something else?
(Feel it is unwise to choose Jasper due to "BJ")

Our surname begins with C and is 2 syllables. Prefer a traditional first name with a contrasting middle. No objection to gender neutral or feminine sounding names.

For various reasons have ruled out Nate, Jude, Robin, Kit, Finn and Leo as middles (but we like these)

What are your thoughts? Benjamin vs Laurence and on middle names for either (most especially for Benjamin?)

I prefer Benjamin why not Benjamin Laurence?

BadTimesAtTheElRoyale · 09/09/2022 23:39

Sorry just re read the post! Benjamin Rory is lovely

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/09/2022 23:54

Laurence - very underused

Ben is nice but oh so many of them

if you have a nice family name I’d use that, or

Laurence Rufus

Laurence Jethro

Laurence Silas

Laurence Rory

Laurence Rowan

I much prefer Benjamin, but really don't like any of the middle names you are considering except Rory
That said, middles names aren't used much.

Isn't Skye normally a girl's name ?

DramaAlpaca · 09/09/2022 23:58

Love Laurence, great name.

If you choose Benjamin, I'd have Rory as the middle name. Or even switch them, to Rory Benjamin.

MinnieMouseclubhouse · 10/09/2022 00:02

Love Benjamin!

Lawrence just seems really heavy and dull.

Benjamin Peter
Benjamin Rowan
Benjamin Finn
Benjamin Griffin
Benjamin Max

Laurence is a female name (in France), the male version is Laurent.

So I'd definitely spell it Lawrence for a boy.

Benjamin is ok but I fond Ben a little overused/dull, even slightly dated.

BloodyCamping · 10/09/2022 08:06

Lawrence is a brilliant name.

BloodyCamping · 10/09/2022 08:07

Rory is very sweet

CollywobbleisCreepy · 10/09/2022 08:08

Definitely choose Laurence not Benjamin.
Laurie is a lovely shortened version.

Laurence George
Laurence Edward
Laurence David
Laurence James
Laurence Andrew
Laurence Matthew

Benjamin is fine too. There are just so many Bens.

MassiveSalad22 · 10/09/2022 08:09

Lawrence 😍 if DD was a boy she would probably have been Lawrence Joel 😍😍😍😍

ofwarren · 10/09/2022 08:37

Benjamin

Seraphina1993 · 10/09/2022 08:46

Don't like Laurence myself - it'll be Larry to the bullies at school :/

Benjamin is 54th on the uk boy list so not as popular as people are saying

moneybeingwasted · 10/09/2022 08:51

Definitely Laurence .Shortened to Laurie if he prefers. It’s a very solid name and suits all ages. My Laurie/Laurence loves his name and he actually doesn’t know another !

StopFeckingFaffing · 10/09/2022 08:53

I would go for Laurence as Benjamin / Ben has been very popular for past 40 odd years so sounding a bit tired/ boring now

Laurence is lovely. I'm not a fan on Jasper particularly but don't object to it as a middle name. James or John would be my preferred alternative but I accept these are very overused too!

Lilacsunflowers · 10/09/2022 16:09

Laurie is very feminine. I only know girls and women called Laurie (short for Lauren and Laura).

I'd shorten Lawrence to Lawrie

LosttheremoteAGAIN · 10/09/2022 16:29

Benjamin Daniel
benjamin joshua
benjamin adam

dementedma · 10/09/2022 20:36

Definitely Laurence. Its a great name

wishing3 · 10/09/2022 23:01

I love Laurence and would be on my list but not right with surname. Like Ben too, but not so keen on Benjamin.

GlassDeli · 10/09/2022 23:43

Laurence

blondie87 · 11/09/2022 19:42

Laurence

Lilacsunflowers · 11/09/2022 20:34

Am I the only one who regards Laurence as a woman's name (Lor ENCE), the feminine version of Laurent?!

Titsflyingsouth · 15/09/2022 15:33

Lawrence is absolutely lovely (but prefer the w spelling.)

cptartapp · 15/09/2022 15:39

Benjamin Lawrence

LookdeepintotheParka · 16/09/2022 20:35

Laurence is great - underused and classic.

I really love it shortened to Laurie. My friend has a baby Laurie and have an older friend with this name too ☺️
