DP says 10 too

lillee · 22/01/2008 21:25

You are not serious? Def a 10 and same score for the funniest thread on here all night!!! DH is threatening to take laptop off me cos i nearly woke DS up laughing so much

trixie68 · 22/01/2008 21:26

I really hope I don't offend you but please have a re think.Imagine his school life once he is away from you and the security of home and into nursery/infants etc. there are some terribly cruel kids out here who will pick on anything and make the most of it to their amusement etc. How will it affect him? If he is strong then he could shake it off and tell them to bugger off... but if he is not? You call him what you like but please be aware of what possibly could happen to the poor soul not only at school but in the long term. Sorry.......

pankhurst · 22/01/2008 21:26

think it doesn't have many benefits really

he will be called "snortley portley" by most of the horrible kids

his mates will call him 'porters'

his partner will call him by his middle name or ben(which is a lovely name though not half as creative as portley)

cadelaide · 22/01/2008 21:27

She's said she's not doing it

controlfreakygobshite · 22/01/2008 21:29

phew!
come on coby, tell us your other ideas

AnnakeyRules · 22/01/2008 21:38

Phew! Glad you're rethinking, coby!

Really like the scoring system, though. Give us another one

coby · 22/01/2008 21:40

controlfreakygobshite I really don't know. We have two DDs and DS is quite a shock!

I have loved the name Isaac and had it reserved for this occassion for nearly 20 years - since I was 11 and now it is really popular .

On the combined but not at all solidly considering list are also

Isaac (as mentioned)
Michael (doesn't feel quite right for him)
Mason (too common poss chavvy?)
Ephram (DH says no way)
Montgomery (Monty) (hmmm, not sure)
Elliot (doesn't feel right for him
Marshall (doesn't feel right for him)

I think we will wait until we meet him and hopefully will then know..

Feel free to make your suggesstions if you have nothing better to do . Glad I made some of you smile tonight...my work here is done

not read the rest but 10

Dottydot · 22/01/2008 21:43

Is Isaac hugely popular? It's a lovely name and I don't think it's common as muck yet?! I think if it's been on your list for 20 years you should go for it!

margoandjerry · 22/01/2008 21:43

I really wanted to call my child Monty. I think it's a fab name. But I had a girl.

controlfreakygobshite · 22/01/2008 21:44

Reuben?

littledawley · 22/01/2008 21:45

If you've always loved Isaac then use it. My name (Rebecca) has been on the top ten most popular all of my life and it's not like it bothers me being 'common'. Our DD is Ava - yes we chose it before it became REALLY popular but I still love it.

Portly - The Portland Hospital's mascot is Portly Panda!!

Love Monty though...

3andnomore · 22/01/2008 21:46

10....

would make me think of Portwine, lol....sorry....

seeker · 22/01/2008 21:46

Go for Isaac - if you've loved it all your life, don't abandon it now. If it helps - there are over 200 boys in ds's school and not a single Isaac.

All my life I had an imaginary daughter called Rowan. For reasons too complicated to explain, I don't have a Rowan, I have a Grace. I love her name - but I still wish she was Rowan - which would suit her far better. Go for it!

controlfreakygobshite · 22/01/2008 21:46

oops. too enthusiastic!

Dottydot · 22/01/2008 21:46

No Issacs in dss' school either. And ds2's got one of the most common boy's names going (Dylan) and I still love it and so far he's the only one in his year.

pointydog · 22/01/2008 21:46

POrtley is a 10, no question

Sounds like the brother of Roy 'Chubby' Brown.

Moomin · 22/01/2008 21:48

I don't and haven't ever taught an Isaac in 14 years and I think it's a beautiful name.

Portley, however........

katierocket · 22/01/2008 21:48

eek...

SoupDragon · 22/01/2008 21:48

Obviously don't go with Isaac if your surname is Hunt. Otherwise, It's fine and not overly popular where I am.
