I think it's ok as a nickname- are you meaning for it to be short for something?

quietnightmare · 27/08/2022 00:05

Grosey josie - saw too many teen movies for me to like this name. Jodie? Jolie?

No, just by itself.

my name is josephine (josie / jose as a nickname) and i love it 😃

rocksonrocks · 27/08/2022 00:10

Meh.

Joni is much nicer!

No, just by itself.

I think it would be a bit odd as the full name as people as it's so linked to Josephine, sorry OP. Like a Jess who wasn't a Jessica. I think Jodie could be a good alternative?

Cheeselog · 27/08/2022 00:18

I don’t love it but it’s a bit tinged for me because I went to school with one who was weird! It was her full name btw and I didn’t know at the time it was ‘meant’ to be short for anything.

I do prefer Josie to Jodie but I think Josephine is better than either.

DramaAlpaca · 27/08/2022 00:32

I love it, but for me it would need to be short for the fabulous Josephine.

GlassDeli · 27/08/2022 00:54

I like it with a soft s but I don't like it pronounced Jo-zee.

Thesethingsareudderrated · 27/08/2022 00:56

I love that name !❤️

anotherpotoftea · 27/08/2022 01:17

Josie Lawrence makes this name cool.

ReginaPerrin · 27/08/2022 01:23

I think it’s a really lovely name.

JubileeTissues · 27/08/2022 01:33

Lovely

elp30 · 27/08/2022 01:38

Steely Dan wrote a great song about "Josie".
That's what I think of when I hear the name.
There was a cartoon in the 60's/70's called "Josie and the Pussycats".

SpinningFloppa · 27/08/2022 01:50

Makes me think of josie Cunningham not a connection most people would make though it’s just that it’s the only person I’ve heard of with that name And don’t know any others personally

SundayTeatime · 27/08/2022 06:27

Only as short for Josephine. I’m not keen on twee short forms as full names -and that tends to mean anything ending in -ie. If it’s used as a nickname, that’s be fine.

hugefanofcheese · 27/08/2022 06:42

Like it, but love Josephine

Randomname1234 · 27/08/2022 07:03

I love it. Would be using it myself if my niece weren’t already called it!

MsMcGonagall · 27/08/2022 07:17

I think it's great. I also think you can use it as it is, you don't need a long form unless you love Josephine or Joanna. I know a Josie and I've never even thought about whether that's short for something and if so, what.

Gufo · 27/08/2022 07:32

Great name but prefer Joanna/Josephine as the 'official' name.

Wouldloveanother · 27/08/2022 08:22

Thanks everyone. I see the point about it being a ‘nickname’ but Josephine is just a bit too much for me, so I think I would stick with Josie. Glad it seems liked though, will be popping it on the list!

My daughters friend is called Josie, lovely name

Blush21 · 27/08/2022 09:25

Family member is called Josie, it’s not short for Josephine and she’s never encountered people who think it is. She’s just Josie. Lovely name, go for it

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/08/2022 11:29

It’s Ok, but I would put Josephine / Joanna on the birth cert. It’s a bit nothingy as a full name

Yika · 27/08/2022 12:43

I like it, it sounds fresh and energetic.
